A slightly different predict thread

Why don't you give track a go for a bit longer and see if it improves? Maybe your training hasn't been specific enough for 5K track races (pace work) or you haven't put the icing on the cake re speed work yet.

The 10 mile course has been measured several times, as it is very often ran by our team. I have been doing speedwork for track since january, I don't think doing speedwork for the next month or two will help me to run faster.

If what you say is accurate, then you should go see a doctor. Mono, leukemia, Hodgkin's, iron deficient, something. Could be that perhaps you are overtrained and just tired, but that's a pretty big drop off for no apparent reason. I'd go to the doctor.

First measured with a Car, to give a rough estimate, then measured with mapmyrun.com, but 2 of the miles on the course have been measure with wheel (out a back course so really 4 miles measured with a wheel. Please do not question the legitamacy of the course, unless you want to come walk it (with a wheel) or bike it yourself as I have already measured it enough times over the last 6 years.

Just wondering if anyone has advice other than a doctor, I don't think I will be able to visit one until after school is out in a couple of weeks

Your season is over. You are burnt out and maybe overtrained. I would bag it and wait for next year.

If that 10 miler was a tempo or something, there is your problem. You were running way too hard in practice and it has caught up to you.

i agree with that, while it feels great to bust out on those 10 mile tempos sometimes, it's good to remain controlled and run closer to 60 minutes, especially if you're not sub 16 for 5k, maybe you should just start running marathons though.

I think you need to define "earlier in the season"... If it was more than 6 weeks ago, what has changed? Did you stop the longer runs? Stop the tempo runs? All in favor of too much track work perhaps? What has changed?

You really need to talk to your coach, not a bunch of "know-it-alls" on a message board. There are entirely too many runners on here who think they know more and/or better than their coach(es).

But, since you asked, here ya go...

That 10 miler must have been brutal... If you went out in 16:1x, you then must have ran somewhere close to 6-minutes to end up with a 55:50 (5:35avg)...

16:30 isn't that far of of your prior fitness. You just need to get it done without the aid of a rolling course...

That's one of the great things about Letsrun. If you wait long enough, eventually you will get the answer you were hoping for.

I agree with all of you guys, about being burnt out, overtrained, season over and running too hard in practice. Our coach and I have talked about overtraining and racing A LOT, because we did it in cross (very very bad). He still seems to encourage overtraining though, such as he tells us to do a 16-20x400m with 45-60 seconds rest in mile pace along with after the workout is over we get "bonuses", where we go nearly all out for 400m trying to break 55-58. Our tempos are typically 5 miles in 8k + 10 pace or faster.

I was just trying to see if it would be worth running 3 more races in may or end the season. (ending the season means a talk with coach about training and he may not enjoy "being second guessed" about the training. I don't want to get him upset about how he is training us.
