I am a freshman in HS and currently have run a 2:06.96 for the 800m...I have my district meet on april 18th and really hope to run a mid-low 2:05 or better to qualify for regionals (top 4).
I am considering running cross country this year (entering sophomore year as i did not do it last season entering freshman year) and i am trying to devise a program for the summer from about mid-may through the end of august (when xc starts then i will use the new coach's workouts). I am thinking of running at about 30-35 miles or so to start and maybe end up capping it at 40 or so (i have never upped mileage past like 20 so i do not want to over do it quite yet). How many times a week should i do strides after my runs? Also what other workouts should I do during the summer months of may-august to better help me for outdoor track '09 for the 800m. Keep in mind I am using xc as training for the 800m not as being highly competitive in cross country.
My huge goal for my sophomore season is to break 2 minutes in the 800m. I do think this is possible and I will accomplish it. Can you guys help me on a summer trainign program? Thanks
