I'm not saying whether to keep your car or not. All I'm saying is that 1) most of the people in the world don't have cars and 2) many, many of the people in developed countries, also don't have cars.

Bike as much as is practical, but keep your car. You will need it much more than you think. Sure, in the "ideal week" you can picture yourself biking everywhere, but things always come up. I have a friend who got rid of his car, and I see him much less than I used to. I make an effort to go to his neighborhood sometimes, just to maintain the friendship, but there's not much to do in his neck of the woods. It gets old driving him places--even every couple of weeks.
I honestly think that it CAN be a selfish choice to get rid of your car. Your friends will have cars, you will always be screwing up their plans, and they'll never tell you about it either.
You can get reliable transportation for very little cash. If you use it rarely, gas and parking will be a minor expense. If the car is cheap, get liability-only insurance.
