I was looking forward to battling with Larry at the Upton, MA 15 km on Saturday. He just turned 60, but I am only 59. We used to have such battles back in the sixties, but no this time I pass Larry at the mile like he is standing still. He was standing still giving splits because he decided to run a 5km the next day. But the other guys who I can see is over fifty comes up on me. So the race on as we fly by a few 25 year-old women to a sprint where I get him by 2 seconds. I thought I won the division, but no, a 50 year-old and a 53 year-old ran in out of sight ahead. So I was third.
The next day I went to a 10 km in Cohasset, MA. Got third again way behind some 50 year-old kid. I could read and write when these guys who are only 50 were newborns, but outkicked a 25 year-old woman with whom I had been battling since half way.
Yes, the times are slower, but I feel the same and have just as much fun running as hard as I can to place as high as possible.
I know where Larry is racing on May 11. I'm going to track him down.
