Let's not forget about Brian Butzler's leg speed...

You had to bring that up again, didn't you :)
On a more worthwhile note...nothing too exciting at day 1 of the WIAC conference meet. Kaul beat Sigl in a fairly tactical race. They broke away with about 600 to go with Sigl pushing the pace and Kaul passed Sigl with about 150 to go and never looked back. A couple provo times in the prelims of the 800 (Kramer and Kehoe) but both were 1:54 mid-highs. Look for them to go faster tomorrow. Also, the mile tomorrow should be fun to watch with Sigl, Butzler, Zdroik, etc all in there. It will be a good chance for Butzler to show all that leg speed of his... :)
I saw Zdroik on Brazzers.com today.
That was after Hany went 4:11 in the DMR
Williams went 9:53 in the DMR at Open New Englands at BU today. Trinity ran 9:59.
A couple good showdowns today between Kosgei and Michael Hardbarger at NYSCTC today. Both 1k and mile. Hardbarger ran a 2:28 at Cornell with the next person behind him 5 or so seconds back, but the question is if he can run faster WITH competition. That is going to be a very good race. Then they're coming back for another showdown in the mile. Should hopefully see the race go under 4:10.
1 Wager, Justin SO CORTLAND 1:53.21*NC P 2 10
2 Stenuf, Nick SR NAZARETH 1:53.54 NC P 2 8
at the NY State meet on flat ST Lawrence.... also....
1 Kosgei, Peter SO HAMILTON 4:10.54*NC A 10
2 Hardbarger, Mike JR RIT 4:13.88 NC P 8
3 Viglione, Niko JR CORTLAND 4:16.93 ECAC 6
which was followed by...
1 Kosgei, Peter SO HAMILTON 2:27.82*ECAC 10
2 Hardbarger, Mike JR RIT 2:32.60 ECAC 8
Given that NYU often goes easy in the UAA meet to get ready for Nationals, do you think they would emphasize the DMR (in which I don't think they have an auto time?) at UAA and have Hany skip the 3000/5000?
Well they went after it at the Armory friday, and it looked like their 800 guy just had a really off day. They also didnt run R Williams who ran 1436, so I would think they will be talking about their options with a Williams/Abdallah DMR, especially after Hany split 410-11. He came back later to run 819, looking really strong, thats a nice double.
Looks like it will take about 10:01-02 to get into Nat's this year.
i think everyone should know that edgar kosgei was on crutches today after being spiked in the dmr
Spiked? More like he cut in with absolutely no room and tripped Keene's 800 leg in the last 70 yards. The Keene guy went down hard, I'm surprised he even finished. The officials threw up a flag and I'm a little surprised Williams didn't get DQ'd.
This being said, I'm sure Kosgei didn't mean to deliberately impede Keene- Keene, Kosgei, and Trinity were running inside each other's shorts in the last 100. It's just a shame it happened.
Kosgei had a great weekend. In addition to his mile and 1000, he ran a 4:03 in the DMR.
I will give Hardbarger credit for he went after Kosgei, but in the end it was not much of a contest. Kosgei opened up a big gap in both races with a lap to go. Kosgei looks impressive. He opened the championship with a 4:03 DMR leg and came back strong in the 1000 and mile.

oh that's hillarious
yeah, I was in that DMR, and kosgei did run a 4:03. It was utterly ridiculous. He did it pretty much alone, and then came back the next day and absolutely housed the mile and 1000. I can guarantee you that he doubles at nationals, and will likely win one or both events. He'll go under 4 this year if he really wants to and gets in the right race.
wtf are you talking about. kosgei ran the 800 in the DMR and will not run at nationals
sorry. Peter kosgei. my bad
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
