When the temperature never dips below 100 for the entire 8 days at Hayward Field, awarding the OT to Eugene prematurely for 2012 will look pretty stupid. Sure it's hot in the middle of the afternoon in Sacramento, but it cools off fast.
congrats for posting some of the dumbest crap on this board. even better that you tried to dress it up to make it sound correct. it's really not that tough to look this sort of stuff up.

Truly the worst spectator experiences I've ever had are the 2000 and 2004 oly trials.
Why? Because there were too many people in the stands?
Both Meth-ville and Sacra-tomatoe have OK tracks. But they aren't IAAF regulation. They are too small and the hammer can't be thrown on the infield due to safety. Sac can ever hold an IAAF WCs unless the stadium is completely re-built and Eug can forget about an IAAF WC since it is too small a town.

I would think Eugene, Carson, and Sacramento would know that already. They certainly need to nuke the stadiums, re-layout the entire venue, rebuild the stadiums, parking structures, etc. That would require massive funds, $100M. Carson has temporary stands and would save the tear down costs. But there's no money for that in T&F, a cheap sport, with very few major sponsors, it's an old story.

So they suck because you love the hammer?
The Olys and IAAF champs give maximum honor to all events. They don't slight the field events. That's in their regulations for Athletics. Unfortunately to make it work in Eugene or Sacramento would mean a new stadium, most likely on an entirely different plot of land.

Screw all of you. What is the big problem about giving it to Eugene? It is track town USA. Everyone is wanting to bring USA track and field back to its glory days, and when was it in its glory days? Back in the 70's. And where were those championships held? Oh Eugene that is right. So just leave it alone. It is going to be good, so don't try and ruin a good thing.
Typical response from the USATF. The fact is they do everything behind doors and have no answers other than "it was a majority." Majority of whom? Of all the athletes participating? I recieved no survey while at the USOT marathon asking about qualifying times. I was not polled as a USATF member about where the nationals or trials should be.
I think that saying it is the majority is just wrong, and is obvious that this is a "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" situation. The fact is the USATF have done nothing for the sport or aid in development. As long as they get paid they think the work is getting done.
My opinion: Letsrun and the internet have done more for American running then the USATF!
Well put, Rosey.

The TV Networks don't. They show the events someone might care about.
Finally I get some bang for my dues buck. BRAVO John Mansoor and the PA.
I don't care if Sacramento or Eugene gets the trials. I've been to the last two and I enjoyed them greatly so I can't really complain.
What I do care about is due process. I don't want to pay dues to an organization that cuts shady backroom deals with Nike or anyone else.
This whole fiasco could bring down that gang of crooks in Indianapolis...here's hoping. If there's a collection for the legal fund count me in.
There should be a push to have the trials sent back to NYC. They have a IAAF Stadium in a city that should be able to put on a amazing event and if done correctly not be overly expensive for the athletes. Go to Eugene so it can rain all days, not have enough hotels, and drive over an hour to get the stadium because the hotels are so far away. But, I guess Nike wins.
For all the carping here about 2012 perhaps we should remember that in 1992 they were held in New Orleans. What a lovely place that is in July. NO has cornered the market and heat and humidity at that time of the year. Don't like the vagrants on the bike path in Sacramento? Dodging bullets in what is arguably one of the top cities for murder in the US is less appealing.
As for NYC - I can see lots of exposure, but while complaints abound as to hotel space in Eugene, the cost of a room in NYC is prohibitive.
No one will ever be happy wherever the Trials are run.
Eugene may be the best city for the trials but that is not what this is about. Anyone that mentions any city that is a good choice or a bad choice or any city that did a good job or a poor job in the past is missing the point.
The point is simple. WAS THE BID PROCESS DONE CORRECTLY?
The ENDS do not justify the means.
There are different favorites depending on which events are strong on in certain parts of the world. European TV and Japanese TV want the throws, distances, and marathon on at prime time TV, USA TV wants only the sprints/hurdles. Irregardless, for the WCs, all heats, events, for athletics must be held on the main field.
The hotel rooms in NYC can be as cheap as anywhere else. If you want to stay in time square then your going to pay a arm and leg. Stay by one of the many, many hotels at the airports that are only 10 minutes away and you'll pay like 140 a night tops. Make the trip a tad big longer maybe 20 minutes from the track and you could pay under a $100. You are there to compete not walk around the city, which some people just don't understand.
New York would be an personal ordeal for everyone so I don't think in general that people would favor it. The heat, humidity, shitty attitude, 3rd world conditions, corruption, police targeting of Blacks, etc. are really bad in New York.
The heat and humidity in Osaka was bad, but everything else went perfectly. The JAAF certified officials are so young, the operation was so efficient, with a minimal amount of people clogging the infield and outfield. People will put up with some discomfort for a good show, but New York has too many negatives to be considered in my opinion.
Your statement is simply stupid, like all New Yorkers, totally full of shit and a total lie. You personally suck and I'll tell it to your face if you tell me where to meet you.
$140 isn't cheap. 12 Euros for a hostel bed in Berlin is cheap. 2500 Yen for a single room in Osaka is cheap. $55 in Eugene or Sacramento for the Motel 6 is cheap. $25 in Eugene or Sacramento for a hostel bed is cheap. That's what I have paid in those places.
You're saying there are beds in hostels for $25 and at Motel 6 for $55 in Eugene for OT week? Show me.
