i am not a sprinter, a long distance runner... sprinters work very hard and train hard... my HS track team, the sprinters always cheered for the long distance guys and in college too they did... from my experience, at alot of meets in high school and college i always saw sprinters cheering for their teammates, whether those teammates were running distance, jumping, throwing, whatever... even today when i go to high school meets to watch races, i see sprinters cheering for their teammates and sometimes i even see them cheering for a stud distance runner (and those sprinters are "real" fans of the sport if they are following a distance runner NOT on their team)...
so, just because every track YOU were on the sprinters did NOT cheer for the other events or maybe they did NOT cheer for YOU because you may be a dickhead (i don't know) does not mean they don't care about other events... YOUR personal experience about sprinters does NOT count...
there are also plenty of african americans are that very good at distance running... there happens to be a HS boy from NJ (brandon jarrett) who is doing really well - 6th at FLN 2007, 4:13 mile and 9:08 two-mile pr's from last spring. i am sure there are others... there is also a guy from florida, joe franklin who ran 1:50 for the 800 and 4:07 or 4:08 (not sure, but its fast) for the mile... he is african american too and he is focusing on the mile this spring to see how far down he can get... so your idea of african americans being all sprinters is NOT true at all!!!
