Great HS runner, has anyone who was a former teammate or competitor or friend heard what's become of him? Did he really have to quit running completely for his church?

I was wondering what happened to him recently, as well.
what kind of church would ask you to stop doing something you are good at and enjoy for them? and who would actually agree to it?
since when is running a sin? since when is being a competitive athlete and doing something healthy a sin? that must be a freak church...
gotta be mormon, that is the wierdest church ever.

i think he had to get married
He's a Moonie (Sun Myung Moo's Unification Church), they make the LDS look positively mainstream.
He works at Orchard Supply Hardware in Berkeley, ca. On Ashby. He could not over come injuries and gave up the sport. Got married ( yes he was raised a Moonie )and has moved on with his life. If you really want to know call the store and ask for him.

Berkeley, huh? i thought he was still in San Leandro. that's where i saw him last (the OSH on Washington Blvd next to Elio's).
here's the deal: when he was a freshman, he used to warm up with us at league meets b/c he didn't have a team. during track season he told us he was already in an arranged marriage. his soph year sets the nat'l 5k record for sophs running about 14:34 or so. just after his senior year he gets married and runs a little bit here and there and was attending Chabot College and working at OSH. been there ever since. he ran a few 5ks the summer out of his senior year (2003 i think) and was sub 15 on the roads (jamba juice 5k anyways).
and if you're interested, his HS training consisted of a private coach riding a bike along the san leandro shoreline next to him. he did tempo runs about 90% of the time with the coach yelling at him to go faster. he did not train with the other people on his team.
search his name--lots of threads about him.
sad that this is what has become of the only promising asian male distance Runner in the U.S, and arguably the world.
^
There's a bunch of marathoning dudes in Japan that could come over and do something similar.
I'll agree that it's disappointing to think we won't ever see Yong-Sung Leal's name in the results, but it's no more disappointing that someone like Ryan Shay. Yong-Sung Leal was always interesting to me as he was 'popular' when I was just getting into the HS distance running scene and he always was 'a big name'. I believe he has some 10k record or all-time mark on the HS level as well.
He was a great talent, but there are plenty of other guys out there.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
