I agree. We need to compile a list of smack-talking standards. I say:
400: 49.5
800: 1:49
1500: 3:49
5000: 13:59
10000: 29:30
Marathon: 2:19
In general it seems like the right to talk smack lies in getting safely below a time that tends to be a big mental barrier for most people. Then people see your time and think "Holy F(*(*, I could never run that!" Thus you can talk smack to them and get away with it.
I don't know what it is about the 10k though. Somehow that 29:30 just seems good enough. No reason why a guy has to do 28:59 before he can tell you how he hit it from behind with your mom last night.
