UC Berkeley
Men: 4:20, 9:20-30, sub 1:58.
Stanford
Men: 4:14, 9:15, sub 1:55.
This is widels regarded as fact. In fact everybody knows this. You probably just should have googled it.
*widely
When I was at Stanford, most 1600/3200/800 incoming were probably at least 5:05/11:10/2:15 in hs (many much faster of course) but we had a few walk-ons as slow as 5:19 for 1600. (This is women, obviously) If you could do the work and improve, you could be there. The walk-ons didn't usually last longer than a year or two.
How fast would you need to be if you wanted to be recruited (for a girl) and not just walk on.
To be recruited you would most likely have to be a top miler in the country or foot locker finalist. Of course there are exeptions.
What is every high school kids obsession with stanford? They don't even have scholorships and there are alot of other awesome running schools in California with great academics.
Obviously Stanford is one of the hardest schools in the country to get into. But do they make exceptions for athletes who are very good but maybe don't have the top grades normally required. If you were say one of the top distance runners in the country but only had a 3.2-3.4 GPA would they still take you?
Looking only at Stanford's published stats, I'd say its possible. 2% of the incoming freshmen had a GPA between 3.0-3.4, so that means 33 applicants were accepted with that score.
So if you want to "last" all 4 years at Berkeley/Stanford, men would need at least sub 4:30 and women would need at least sub 5:20?
You have to be tops academically and athletically to get into Stan/Cal, and it helps to be a (running) state champ, FL finalist, IAAF world youth particpiant. Cal gets the 2nd most freshman applications in the U.S, and Stanford/Cal are the 3rd/4th top athletic programs in the NCAA.
Forgive me but how is Cal a top athletic instituion. Are they good at water polo and swimming or something?
Top NCAA Athletic programs
1) UCLA
2) USC
3) Stanford
4) Cal
My buddy got into Stanford with a New York State Section 7 Record of 48.5 400m.

not sure where you came up with those rankings, but the real rankings from 2006-2007 were
1)Stanford
2)UCLA
3)UNC
4)Michigan
5)Southern California
I assume you used a previous year.
Cal was 9th.
http://www.cstv.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/nacda/sports/directorscup/auto_pdf/finald1standingsthe ncaa website, and team champs list ucla, usc, stanford, cal. for the olympics, ucla, usc, everyone else way down. sears cup lists stanford, ucla, usc, cal. just google for it. basically those 4 schools are the 1st choice for any freshman, only a dream for myself although i have 2 years to get faster. my dad says just go to indiana, duh...
Ah so, going back to that question, for men and women, what would you need to run under for 1600/3200/800 for Cal and Stanford (I think men was mentioned, women wasn't)? And I don't know if anyone knows this, but anyone have an idea of what average weighted/unweighted GPA the athletes on Stanford/Cal's teams have?
Keep dreamin dude. Wherever you end up, go on and finish a good solid major, engineering, pre-med, business, or whatever your career choice is.
You are all wrong. Brad Pitt's character from Across The Tracks got into Stanford running 1:58 and his coach got in because he was the best miler in the county. If you are the best runner in your county or can run 1:58 you can certainly make it to Stanford. NOW, I'VE GOTTA GO STUDY!!
If you believe that Hollywood Fag, Brad Pitt, then you'll never get out of the psycho ward that your are in now.
