So my goal was to break 6 minutes in the mile before track started without killing myself, and then break 5:30 at the end of track. However, the problem was that after the first 2 weeks, I think I jumped into mileage too quickly after not running for about 4 weeks (coming back from injury), though it wasn't a huge amount only 25 miles or so. I took a few days off, and then came back. I went slowly and built back up again this time, running only 15-20 miles a week, and on a windy day with training shoes etc I ran around 15 minutes for 2-2.1 miles. But then later, about end of December, I felt like I had gotten much slower and stuff, I had bumped my mileage a bit to be honest. I felt I maybe overtrained so I took a few days off, because I couldn't even finish an easy 4 mile run, I just didn't feel motivated. Then about 9-10 days ago I ran a mile time trial, in very bad weather though really windy and raining a bit. I couldn't believe my time at the end, 7:55, the slowest mile I have ever run before. Then finally about 5 days ago, I went for a 5 mile run and I wasn't extremely tired after finishing, running about 8:30-9 minute pace, I felt pretty good after finishing. However right after this I got sick, and haven't run in 5 days. I'm feeling much better now, coughing a bit but breathing is fine and I've recovered a lot. There are about 2 weeks left till track, then training through track. I feel I've gotten a lot slower, but I was wondering what type of 2 weeks I should do, etc. Should I do speedwork at all or would this hurt me? Thanks for reading.
