I love all the "OMG, world has so many more people!" comments. We aren't going to line up, World War I-style, and run across fields at each other, shooting rifles from the hip. We've killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis at the cost of less than 4,000 when we are on the other side of the globe, in an offensive war, on their hometurf. If it's a no-holds-barred-except-for-nukes survival fight, I'll take the US and I won't look back.
Look at it this way, it would take Europe and Asia probably 10 years or more to cross the Pacific and the Atlantic against our naval forces (most likely they would never be able to) and then it would take an unbelievable effort to crack our air superiority (please google "F-22") and actually land troops. After that you have to fight a beach war against everything we've got (good luck). If you can get inland and you have us whipped, we'll be holed up for literally hundreds of years while you root us out. Hell, a "US v. the World" war that the World manages to win would take so long it would probably be called on account of a meteor.
Before 9/11, Bin Laden called the U.S. a "paper tiger". He thought our economy would collapse after a single hit. Now he sits in a cave somewhere eating a single egg per day to survive, because our troops are crawling all over the place all around him.
The U.S. has a history of kicking ass and asking questions later. Germany had nearly all of Europe taken until the U.S. decided to show up (along with the Canadians and British, of course).
Japan - the U.S. used the nuke. Got to give them credit for inventing it, regardless of whether you agree with dropping it. I mean, talk about using ingenuity to defeat an enemy. Impressive.
this is a joke right? the US wuldn't stand a chance either on defence or attack. China would rock americas world to begin with, then theres the problem of the other 250odd countries.
Nobody.
Not saying that the US didn't play a huge role in liberating Europe, but Germany shot itself in the foot by invading the Soviet Union (or at least rushing into the invasion so quickly). At a cost of something ridiculous like 20% of their civilan population, the Soviet Union bogged down Germany in 1943-43 before the US presence in Europe ramped up. We were facing a much weaker German army in 1944-45 than the one that existed at the height of their power in 1941. Again, the US obviously played a crucial role in saving Europe, but don't discount the role that the Russians played.

should say "bogged down Germany in 1942-43"

I would not worry too much about China...sure they got a lot of people, but heck, they are all smaller than us skinny distance runners and will convert to throwing stars and kung-fu when their backs are pushed against the wall.
I fear the Russians much more!
But to answer the original question....yes USA can defeat the rest of the world, but only if liberal media is forced to not cover the war.

You're right I forgot to mention the Russians, probably because they weren't technically our ally, but they were very important too. And they took huge losses.

at first i thought to myself that if it was just hand to hand combat i could probably take down a few thousand chinamen myself...
but then i thought about all the fatties in america and realized we'd just get fkcing owned
i almost forgot, copy & distribute this map to your field officers

We would lose in any situation, think about it: All of the European Armies fly over the North pole into Canada, once there they form a huge front along our Northern border with their superior numbers. At the same time China masses on the Mexican Border and invades through the Southwest. Constant bombing runs on of our major cities, we're f***ed.
If we did try to do something as crazy as taking over the world, best bet would be to try to focus on conquering major oil produing countries first to cut off a significant portion of the supply of fuel to much of the world. OPEC supplies almost 40% of the world's daily oil supply and has 2/3 of the remaining proven reserves, so the middle east would be a good start, although you are missing a few OPEC countries, notably Venezuela. Unfortunately, Russia is the world's leading single producer of oil and natural gas (and has by far the largest reserves of natural gas on the planet), and taking them out in a conventional war would be next to impossible.
People here saying that the USA could withstand an attack by the entire world...wtf are you thinking?
Just imagine a simple scenario: a first huge "wave" of attacks comes from China, Russia, India, ALL of south america and Africa. After this there's a *slim* chance that the USA has survived...then the EU and Japan by themselves have the same tech (google Eurofighter, Challenger,) and FAR more men, planes and tanks.. so how is a weakened America going to withstand an attack by a force that would be stronger in any case?
And I haven't even mentioned many semi-powerful countries like South Korea, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Switzerland and Canada...
Defensivelly, we'd do a lot better than most people think.
First off, for all your european armies to cross the pacific and the atlantic, they'd have to get past the biggest and most advanced navy in the world, not to mention a submarine fleet that would desimate anything being sent our way. Just getting past the pacific and atlantic fleets would not be easy.
Secondly, taking canada would be an absolute must, but considering it would probably take a day, there wouldn't be a huge issue there. Why canada? Because it has the second largest oil reserves in the world behind saudia arabia, giving us enough fuel and drilling points to help us out throughout the war.
Third, our airforce is pretty much going to dominate anything that enters our airspace, and further more, if european and chinese fleets made through our respective waters, they'd have satalite guided misles and smart bombs to deal with before they ever touch shore. There would not be much left of the intial wave that our ground forces couldn't handle if they actually made it to shore.
For the sake of argument, we could pretend that they landed on short on the atlantic and the pacific, we could pull our forces into the geographically superior positions of the rockies and appalachians, and fight the front from an elevated and covert positions.
And the manufacturing base, please, this is america people, could you imagine the wartime economy that would spring from something like this... they could turn factory's into war machines in no time.
It'd be a great fight, but i'm pretty confident that we could hold our ground long enough to make every other country realize it isn't economically viable for them to continue the war.
people, you are forgetting our very own us navy which has the most advanced technology in the world. bomb our cities into rubble? i think not. we dont have to sit there and take it.
and this is our not so secret, but unstoppable weapon:
True, and people don't forget, our Navy is BIGGER THAN ALL COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD COMBINED.(talking about actual carriers, subs, destroyers, etc).
The rest of the world includes FRANCE.
It is almost impossible to win if France is on your side.
oops, I meant bigger than the next 17 largest combined. Still pretty big.
