Eric Heintz the coordinator of the Atlanta Track Club team at Club Nationals is looking for people who witnessed the incident at club nationals to make statements to the police. Apparently, Mike Gerber, the athlete involved is being charged with felonies and according to this thread is still in jail and has $35,000 bond. See:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=2263701&page=7#2267842
Here is what Mr. Heintz wrote:
I am the team coordinator for the ATC's Men's team and I witnessed the entire event. This isn't about people's opinions on the incident, we simply need more witnesses to come forward. Felony charges have been leveled and we truly need people to respond with what they saw (for the better or worse). Is there any way we can have a locked thread or a blurb on the front page asking for witness statements? It is imperative that we get them as soon as possible as Mike is still sitting in jail.
So if you saw the incident and would like to email what you saw, do so at: Indra Turnbull
(I edited this to reflect that people should contact Ms Turnbull)
This might have already been brought up, but I'm too lazy to read all the exerpts right now.
Did anybody get it on cellphone video? take it to the press.
Please tell us that Mike is out on bail and not still sitting in the jail. If he's not, tell me how I can help raise the cash.

don't you usually have to post like 10% of the bail or something? $3,500...im sure we could raise that in no time on here....
not if the judge sets bond at cash surety, in which case he must come up with the full amount. the best bet is to get ahold of a bail bondsman. generally a bail bondsman wants 10% of your bond up front and collateral for the remainder. so, say you can come up with $3500 and you also own a car/house/asset worth the remainder, then you take the car title/property deed or whatever to the bondsman and he'll get you out from there.
Are you guys fans of the Atlanta Falcons? Players?
mikes a good guy. Feloney charges? this has to be BS?
I hope the statements are going to Mr. Heintz and not the police because they would simply bury them.
Better to take this to the press and put it on youtube.
If this guy was arrested and is sitting in jail, then I'm sure he deserves to be there. The police are there to protect and serve the public. I'll trust the police on this one. If you aren't doing bad things, then the you will never have negative contact with the police. I never have.
law and order conservative -
HA-HA! you sound like the person who believes everything you hear on the tv. if the news told you the canadian army was invading northern new york, would you believe that too? sure, there is no such thing as a "bad policemen", and politicians never lie, and neither do your parents. santa DOES exist and so does the toothfairy.
attempt hearing BOTH SIDES of an arguement before taking sides, otherwise you look like a complete idiot.
you are very forunate to never have had a negative experience with a poice officer, but let me ask you this: what race are you? and are you male or female? being a male, of foreign discent, i can tell you that I HAVE had negative experiences with cops and sercurity officers - for no reason. i have been "randomly selected" at airports on more then one occasion. given the fact that i am of a darker complexion with dark brown hair (i could pass for an arab), this doesn't strike me as shocking (to be singled out as a "possible threat" - even though i'm barely pushing 145 pounds).
all i'm saying is not all cops are honest - sure we'd like to think so (and i'm sorry if i've ruined your sunny days, but santa does NOT exist, neither does the easter bunny).
people need to wake up and realize that the world we live in is not all happy and sunny days. this isn't pleasentville. Sadly their is crime, racism, and discrimination.
hey wayside, knock the chip off your arab stunt double shoulder, and help out this thread instead of telling your war stories. this isn't the time for it.
Wejo,
Will you be using the site to help raise funds for Mike to get out on bail? Indra's primary concern seemed to be getting Mike out of jail as soon as possible. I know that I would be willing to give a little, and I'm sure others would be too.
At least this would give him an opportunity to tell his side of the story.

This is a sad situation, however, I find it humorous and somewhat arrogant that this board feels like it has the influence or power to change anything.
THIS BOARD HAS BEEN OUTRAGED AT
1. USATF convention in Hawaii
2. Mens Trials in November
3. Changing the Trials Standards
Guess what folks. This board and all of its posters have no influence on anything. It is an area to vent and that is it. I remember as a child being told to write an angry letter when I was upset, but don't send it. The purpose was to allow the writer to cool down. LETSRUN is todays version of that letter.
So continue to argue about the cross-country rankings and the BCS and anything else that you feel passionate about but keep in mind that YOU HAVE ZERO INFLUENCE in change. That includes your outrage at how Mike was handled at the party.
i think in this situation, the forum is being used to collect statements from witnesses(for better or worse). it's also been used to get the word out about mike's defense fund. this information can ultimately be pretty influential and helpful if you ask me.
I'm guessing you're not Richard Kiplagat?
I ran in the same conference as Richard Kiplagat for years, great guy actually. However, I don't agree with "Not Anymore" we do have some pull and if everyone had your attitude and never complained or spoke out nothing would ever get changed. To all those who immediately agreed with Mike getting jailed maybe you should turn off the TV and put down the newspaper for 5 minutes. Yeah sure they're great but listen to every side of the issue before you make judgement, cops are human jsut like all of us they make prejudiced and biased decisions just as much as anyone else, to think otherwise is ignorant. Personally I have no judgement on the situation as i didn't wtiness it or really know what happened but no one should be posting about how he must have been wrong simply because he'd been arrested by the so called "moral majority". So people like "Law and Order Conservative" get an education and read more than 3 inches into any issue, it's people like you, who immediately assume the law must be right, that lead to bias and racism. To steal a quote, "Never define yourself as conservative or liberal, no real human being should be one or the other, hear both sides of the issue before you make your decisions because nothing is that black and white."
