Living through both Loma Prieta ('89) and Northridge ('94), I've never suffered any earthquake damage and I struggle to think anyone I know who has (most structures and all new ones are built to codes as to be resistant to earthquakes).
Is there much skiing in Hawaii?
If traffic is cooperative, you can get from Santa Monica (which can have friendly weather year round) to Big Bear Lake, which can have good snow for close to half the year, in just over 2hrs. If traffic is bad, which it often can be, it might be closer to 3 and a half. Of course, traffic and the poor public transit system, are the biggest hang ups about southern California (Bay Area is much better in this respect).
My original point was, I don't think there's a more geographically varied state in the union (of course, being the third largest gives you a good head start in that respect).

Cali is and always will be better in every event.
Two words
Ryan Hall, Meb, Kastor, Mike Granville, LB Poly, Girls HS National 1600m and 3200m record, LB Poly, Marc Davis.
Ok that was a few more than two words.
I could go on and on, but I will say that Hall got owned by Ritz EVERY time he ran against him. Everyone got owned by Ritz.
I wouldn't be too proud of Marc Davis. The midwest has 20 people who are great runners (and not flaky goofballs) for every great Californian like Marc Davis.
Two Silver medals (Meb and Kastor)...Case reopened and now offically closed!
Cali vs. the Midwest (much less any 1 state from that region) Cali wins. Unless you can reply with better than two silver medals that is.
Oh and Ritz, he's great. But like my coach would always say, you're only as good as your last race and Ritz got Pwned by Hall.
I know you guys don't like Jess Strutzl and Stember, but they went to the games.
Oh and on a final note.....Tom Brady. No he not a runner, but still proves my Cali is better point.
I grew up in LA county, and though I miss the beach, I would not move back for anything. Overcrowded with pretentious, I-should-be-rich-and-famous-without-having-to-work types. Pretty nice weather for training, though, if you don't mind the smog.
"Cali" has more homos. Case closed.

so what? if you're reading this and you're mexican(i am) i'm sorry, but were not the richest of people and we take up most of cali. most dont have the luxury of being any to drive or live where we want...so good try. most of us(including german) are stuck in sh!thole towns that reach 110 regularly in the summer and we might as well be breathing air out of a tail pipe. we melt right when we step out the door. can i get some central valley guys to back this up??
Yea, I’ll second that…I now live in the Midwest, but was born and lived in California for over 22 years. I too, am from the Fresno area, and believe it or not the Midwest plain states and the san Joaquin valley are very similar in terrain and weather (excluding the winter season) . In the san Joaquin valley (where German lives) we don’t surf, we don’t go driving along palm tree lined boulevards, we don’t go to chic nightclubs where its normal to see A-list Hollywood celebrities. So to the people who say runners from California are soft cause of the great weather, and Cali culture….Don’t be fooled! Not everyone is from Beverly hills, some of us from the crap towns where there’s nothing else to do but farm, run, breath in air you can actually see and taste, and endure horrible heat in the summer and horrible fog and humidity in the winter.
Yes, and you've all been infected with coccidiomycosis.
Dildo, we're talking about Footlocker Championship performances here...
The Midwest has 14 individual boys titles, the West has just 8.
Oh, and Brady moved to Michigan to refine his skills for the NFL...

well then if brady moved to michigan then bryan clay moved to california! HA!
yeah dude, california does suck. especially since it's 60 degrees today. oh yeah, but you'll have a high of 9. single digit temps. have fun.
keep in mind, that southern california has the most talent per capita in distance running among HS athletes. but what do you care? you're proud to hang out with the 4h girls at the local gas station on friday nights.
