Congratulations on a smart and strong race. Jordan Hassay couldn't handle the smoking last 800.

When the hell was the last time a FCC girl champion weighed more than 80 lbs???
yeah, she is tiny :) Ashley ran very impressive and smart. My hats off also to Kathy Kroeger for finishing as well as she did after going through so many set backs. Next years footlocker is shaping up to be a beaut! I wonder if Brasovan is trying out for world xc?
Watched tape and had hasay in 5:18,11:00(5:42), and 16:57(5:57).
Brasovan was approximately
5:28, 5:42(11:10),5:34(16:44)

remember though hasay's goal is edinburgh world junior cross country championsips on march 30th not a high school meet on december 8th, anyways congratulations to the winner ashley brasovan on an outstanding breakthrough race.
Ashley seems too tiny, although very well spoken in her interview. Obvious questions are: (1) is she eating correctly (see Kathy Kroeger, 2006); and (2) will she mature (grow) into a more average runner? She is a junior, but still seems pre-pubescent.
i have not seen a picture of her, but if she is tiny, i would think her future is bright in the 5k, 10k and marathon, look at how small the ethiopian girls are dibaba and defar about 5 foot 95-100 pounds kidane is listed as 5 foot 2, but she looks shorter than defar and dibaba when they stand together, bezunesh bekele is about 4 foot 7 and 80 pounds and has run 3110 for 10k on the track and 10807 for the half marathon and has finished top 10 in world cross country a lot of times even though she is 24 years old, of course the great japanese marathoners especially the women are usually small, tegla loroupe and margaret okayo are tiny, some will say but look at the big marathoners? paula radcliffe looks huge compared to the girls she run against, but what is radcliffe about 5 foot 6-7 and 115 pounds,
being small shouldnt hurt brasovon in running.

So that gives her a reason to run a poor paced race and cost her a footlocker national title?
Brasovan won the race because that 10 seconds slower she ran the first mile allowed her to run 20 seconds faster than the others the 3rd mile. When runners realize this, they become much better runners. That being said, her 5:28 was still a few seconds faster than an optimal first mile should have been. The boys did the same thing with their 2:10 half and first 4:28 first mile. No way they are running sub 14!!!
Rippy, you are correct. Live and learn.

Both Hasay and the top boys went out too fast, but you have to remember that the first mile is flat and should be run faster than the others
Hasay was 2:31 at the half mile
Either Hasay thought that she was far superior to the field and could run away with it, or she needs to learn about pacing. Props to Ashley Brasovan. She ran like a champion.

That's what I was saying. She went out too fast at first, but her first mile split was fine. If she had run that first mile more evenly she would have been better off.

-bullcrap.
exactly what i said. but remember that was that posters own thoughts and ideas, i have never once heard hasay say that. never once after her race did she give an excuse about her performace. she simply said she took the pace out hard and it sucked that no one went with her and she just couldnt hold on.
Being from Florida and knowing Ashley personally, let me clear up a couple of things
1. She is not anorexic. Although very petite, she has been like that all her life and her mom is a bout the same size as her
2. Although she ran a very impresive race, it was by no means a breakthrough race. Check this page out:

Ashley has only lost 5 Cross Country/2mile races in her entire career:
2005 Footlocker south-17:45
2006 Footlocker South-18:01
2007 Nike Outdoor Nationals-10:23
2007 Footlocker South-17:07
She came into Footlocker this year with PR's of 4:55/10:13/16:37
As a freshman at the FLrunners race she won in 17:07. This was a very competitive race for boys and girls as the entire state of Florida ran it plus some out of state teams(Warwick Valley for one). The winning boys time was 15:26 by eventual Footlocker qualifier Justin Harbor. Only 11 guys in that race broke 16.
As a sophmore at the FLrunners race she ran 16:41 on a legit course. She beat eventual footlocker qualifiers Kayla Hale by 34 seconds and Emilie Amaro by 59 seconds.
State meet last year was simply amazing-she lost to Emilie Amaro in the 1600 by half a second in 4:55 and then came back less than an hour and a half later and ran 10:13 all by herself running 5:03/5:10 splits.
3. She is truly amazing to watch run. Wathching her run on video is just not the same. Her body has no restrictions when it comes to range of motion. She has a very bright future ahead.
the fith loss was
2006 Great American-17:49 to eventual Footlocker National champion Kathy Kroeger
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
