My brother works for the NY Giants, back a few years they had a kicker by the name of Jennings. My brother said he was in better shape than anyone on the team, ran every day up to 10 miles.
Still wouln't break 10:00 for two miles without some interval work and a few races at the 2-mile distance...
It's charming how variations on this thread pop up every couple months or so. The same guys who can't break 18 for a 5k come on here and get their skivvies all up in a bunch at the mere possibility that some "overpaid thug" could eke out an arbitrary mediocre athletic accomplishment such as a 10 minute two-mile.
You people killed Kennedy.
I couldnt give a shit less if they could or couldnt. I just dont think its likely without some training and a serious change in body mass.
You killed my buzz.
WORD
You want to hear crap. I was talking to a friend of mine at school who plays football and he said he thought there were some NFL players who could break **8 MINUTES** for the 2 mile. when i explained to him that it was 4 minute mile pace, he was like, "oh, nevermind." But he did say that some could DEFINITELY WITHOUT TRAINING GO SUB 9 MINUTES FOR THE 2 MILE!!!
Is that complete crap or what?

This is just the best thread ever........a bunch of scrawny runners who think that they are 'better' than a football player.... as if running around a neighborhood every day, whining about your IT band somehow compares to a couple of hours in the weight room followed by a couple of hours on the field, in 90 degree heat,,,getting smacked by a 300 pound lineman and having to get up again and do it over and over while a coach is screaming in your face. Clearly you were the little fast guys....yes, who cares that you were the fastest in junior high?...that tried out for football....ran circles around everyone when you were just in helmets, but the first day that you had pads on.....got hit and walked away...right over to the cross country team. Don't think for a second that you are in any way shape or form comparable to a football player....even a high school player, much less college or pro. Just deal with it......big guys rule.
yah....i luv foootball.....so pretty much football is the best at evrything...i bet u dont no it but evry1 in football can run a 3 minit mile or even a 2 minit mile cuz wer better at evrything than runners.....even runnering....i bet u didn't even no that my dad can beet up ur dad.......and my dad is bigger than ur dad and like 300 pounds........and ur dad is poor like i bet he only has only one dollar and my dad has over 100 and ninety dollars!......so just shut up and donn't tell me that u can do ne thing better than football cuz u can't....jsut deal with it!!!!!!
hey are you kidding me, your an idiot. never talk on this thread again.

I'm not sure how this came up. But my buddies and I were watching the NFL games last Thursday (how bout them Cowboys?) and at one point someone conjectured, "Could any player in the NFL break 10 minutes in the 2 mile?"
Most everyone said "No way." Then someone raised the interesting possibility that there could be kickers that were ex soccer players with amazing natural endurance - maybe they could do it.
So here are my 2 questions
1) Is there anyone in the NFL who at their current level of midseason fitness could break 10 flat for 2 mile (heck even 3200)?
2) Is there anyone in the NFL who could break 10 flat if they trained for it?
Your thoughts?

PS. I'm more interested in hearing about non-kickers but it's all pretty interesting.
Lighter running backs and lighter wide receivers could do it if they wanted to.
Would need more info such as how long of a time period are you talking about in your training question.
Are you talking about doing it in a year? Or doing it in two years?
I'm sure they could not only break 10 but approach 9 mins flat if they really wanted to.
Or some safeties could do it.
The weight ranges would have to be all 184 and below though. I don't really see anyone above 184 doing this.
Finding an NFL athlete in the NFL below 184 is tough but there are a number of them out there.
It's not based on weight. The 184 pound guy is a WR or CB and is a sprinter. Sprinters don't do distance no matter how long they train for it.
Running 10:00 takes some talent and NFL played do not have it. Skinny distance can't do heavy weight training and play in the NFL, either.
