Only a few more hours until we have 2 new FL champs! Hasay and German for the win.

Hasay wouldn't be a new champion, silly!
Boy did you miss that one (both actually). Hasay is just beginning to join the mortals and unfortunately with her body type, as I predicted, last year was her best. Will she be top 10 in next year's FL? Probably not, as her body continues to change and as the younger girls move up and pass her (look at the two 10th graders, and one 9th grader who nearly caught up to her at this year's FL. Again, it is a travesty to start these kids, like Jordan, at too young an age and give them such early success that really means nothing except ego deflation (and often depression and eating disorders) as they grow up as a "in the pack" runner.

Are you really that stupid or just trolling in ignorance?
She just won the 1500 meter race at the 2007 USATF Junior Championship Track & Field Meet in a meet record time of 4:16.98. She then almost matched that time at Worlds. That was only 5 months ago. Did you forget her 10th place finish last year at Footlocker compared to her win the year before? Not only are you beyond ignorant, you don't even have your facts straight.
Without knowing the specifics of her training, it looks to me like she she is lacking in aerobic capacity from running a limited amount of miles. (As well as running a very poorly paced race) As she matures and can handle more of a workload, her times in the longer distance races will improve. As an outsider, I don't think she has even come close to her potential and has a great future ahead of her.
Hasay always runs best with even/negative splits. Why she and her coach deviated from this is not obvious to me. She underestimated the conditions and comp this time, and got beat by a girl who ran a smarter race.

You are correct as does every other runner. Hasay has been kind of hit or miss in her pacing. There is absolutely no reason Hasay should have ever considered taking the lead until the 2 mile mark. She should have cruised behind the others and used her 4:16/1500 capability to pull away the last mile. Even if the pace was slow, no one would have been able to hang with her.
Of course 95% of all high school runners go out too fast and it is extremely hard to have the confidence in yourself at that age to let other runners go at the beginning knowing you will catch and pass them by the end. I think proper pacing is one aspect of racing that coaches do not spend enough time on or do a poor job of teaching at the high school level.
I have had coaches tell me that they have their runners get out fast because there isn't enough room on the course to pass people. My response is that there was enough room for 72 kids to pass the kid who was leading at the half mile and ended up in 73rd place!!!
Hassay is developing just fine. You are looking at a new American phenom in her younger days. Hassay is definitely not over mileaged. That fact alone will make her head and tails above the others as time goes on and she matures in stregth. I really don't understand why we just can't get behind our kids and support them. Jordan ran a 4:16.98 1500 as a sophomore. Do you honestly think she will not be ,"The One", as time goes on.
what do you mean with her body type? what about the males and females from kenya that run well in their youth? does growing up screw up all that training? not at all. its great what she is doing. i hope she does take more of a lydiard approach to her training, making sure her focus is more on aerobic fitness while she's in her youth, but i think she will be fine. as far as her finishing 3rd at Footlocker Nationals, "you can't win 'em all", right?
Jordan Hasay’s personal records as of June 23, 2007:
Distance Time All-time HS Rank
800 meters 2:11.50 n/a
1,500 meters 4:16.98 4
1,600 meters 4:39.13 3*
One mile 4:42.21 13
3,000 meters 9:26.32 21
3,200 meters 10:04.07 8
Two miles 10:07.65 6
U.S. Records
* Age 14 and HS freshman 3000: 9:26.32
* Age 14 and HS freshman 3200: 10:07.56
* Age 15 and HS sophomore 1500: 4:16.98
* Age 15 and HS sophomore 3200: 10:04.07
* Age 15 and HS sophomore two mile: 10:07.65
Maybe not mind-blowing progression, although her 1500m times really show it and she is probably still figuring out what type of training is necessary for her to race her best, but she definitely is moving backward.
Just imagine what Lannana or Tegen could do with her.
i meant to type "she definitely is NOT moving backward."

people always count jordan out yet she still rises to the top. i agree with the above poster, she will be a beast with some more aeorobic development. jordan will adjust and we will see nothing but better races from her. you negative posters may not be paying attention to that 1500 time but it is a prelude to what she will do in the longer runs being able to have speed like that.
What people count Jordan out? Seriously, I haven't seen more than a very small handful of people(3 or 4 tops) say that she isn't going anywhere, and you make it out to sound like nobody believes in her ability anymore. Simply not true.
Nobody is saying Jordan Hasay is never going to run as fast as she did at 14. Just that a lot of very talented female runners do amazing things at a young age and then never go anywhere. Hasay is still pretty small- I don't think she's going to drop off as much as many others, but I wouldn't be surprised if she stagnates for a year or two before or during college. I'm betting she will come out on top though, and could be the next Favor-Hamilton or Decker-Slaney if she gets with the right coaches.
Exactly what the high school poster was saying. You sound as if you're trying to commend Jordan but your throwing pebbles instead of rocks.
