CoachB = Coach Brennan?
I say he wins footlocker nationals by a considerable margin! I ran on that course in HS, and wow he just made me feel like a jogger. This kid is something else, I cant wait until track season is here. New records left and right all season I bet!

How do you say his first name? The interviewr said "Jer- man" like the country, but Espanol would be "Her-man"?

The second pronounciation (like German Silva, etc). It's one thing for someone with no connection to Hispanic culture to mispronounce it like that (iut of pure ignorance, sure) but it's another for Rich Gonzalez to do so.
While this is impressive, the favorite still has to be Derrick for his absolute dominance in everything.
From his coach on dyestatcal
9) Both German and I prefer the name German. That is his nickname instead of pronouncing it Herman(used by close family). Pre is Pre and I think it should not ever be copied. I think each runner is an individual in their own right and should be identified for their unique qualities and personality.
HE CHEATED!!!

he certainly didnt look very tired thats for damn sure.
LOL
he falls across the line a pops up and starts trotting again.
exactly
you can't say he is dominant in everything if he hasn't raced in everything, including the division 4 boys state xc meet in california, and i dont think fernandez has lost to anyone this season. the question will be who is still physically ready to race to their highest potential when nationals come around.
From an interview with German Fernandez on Dyestat.com:
6) There are a few "German Fernandez Stories" floating around the internet. One is that you stopped to tie your shoe at your league cross country finals after 800m, still hitting the mile at 4:45, and finished in 14:42. Another is that less than four months after returning from knee surgery, you ran 4:05 for 1500 then came back the next day with a 1:09 half marathon. True or false? And can you add a few details?
GF: Yes, I had to stop to tie my shoe at the league finals after 800 meters, and it was scary because I had never been in that situation before. Maybe that was why I ran so fast. And last year, four months after my surgery, I ran 4:05 for a 1500 and then, the next day, a half marathon in 1:09, which I really didn't enjoy. It was supposed to be my easy long run with my girlfriend Georgina Arnold. I started off at 6:30 pace, and then after that it became a race. I picked it up to a 5:19 pace, catching up to the leaders, and outkicked the last two older guys at the end to win it. After I finished, they told me I made it to nationals, and I'm like, "What? I can't go— if my coach finds out what I just did, he'll kill me (no joke)." So I gave my spot at nationals to the fourth guy who finished. Man, my legs were so burned out that I couldn't even walk. It was horrible. It took me two weeks to recover from that race, so yeah, it was pretty intense.
This is not the kid i want to win footlocker. He seems very arrogant.
Yeah, almost like he was one of those "rarest of the rare"- a runner who actually gets laid.

after this, picking anyone but him for footlocker is crazy
Donn Cabral just broke a 20+ year old record by 5 seconds, would you really call it crazy to pick him? Ran 6 seconds faster than last year's 2nd place finisher, and 20 seconds faster than McDougal, who was right behind Withrow, Rupp and Kiptoo at Nationals. Not saying he's the favorite, but to count him (and several others) out is silly.
Not to downplay Donn, as he is an excellent runner, but individual competition this year is going to be much better than last year. This is the first time since the days of Hall/Webb/Ritz where there have been multiple runners who have been breaking HUGE records and running mindboggling times all season. Cabral, Fernandez, Colby Lowe, Luke Puskedra, Chris Derrick, all of these guys have been absolutely crushing everyone this season. I don't think you can really give an edge to any of these guys. Fernandez and Derrick have the notoriety that comes from breaking very historical course records. Cabral has been somewhat overshadowed by the guys in other regions, but has had an excellent season himself, breaking the VCP record with a huge margin of victory. Colby Lowe is undefeated this season, has already been to FLN twice and is clrealy in better shape than last year. Puskedra demolished the CR at his state meet held by Josh Rohatinsky and soundly beat the top returning FLN runner Ben Johnston(8th last year) last weekend.
I don't think you can count out any of these guys. There are others who may challenge, but the only bet I would be willing to make is that one of these 5 guys will win it. And honestly, Cabral has the longest odds of that group, even with his record breaking run. 6 or 7 years from now, we'll look back at this race the same way that we look at the race in 2000 when Hall, Webb and Ritz duked it out (well... Webb and Hall did, Ritz was too busy killing them) in Florida. These guys are going places.
what an arrogant little prat. good luck to his opposition.
He dived at the finish! Weird. Awesome run by the kid.
Ritz went 14:10 in high school, whats the big deal? Fast time but we've seen better.
