bc they no good
because georgia is awful this year (will be worse without Burrell)
Looks like Cal Poly should make it with wins over W&M, Syracuse, Florida, Princeton, and New Mexico, (or they get pulled in by ASU that may have more points than CP), then UCLA get in with more points than either of them, no?
What about girls? Particularly from the Midwest Region...

W&M can't give points because they were pushed in, Syracuse at best are the last team in, Florida, Princeton & New Mexico don't get in so Cal Poly needs a push from ASU.
With the recruits IU had and a returning XC All-America and two other guys who ran under 30 last spring the fact that IU is worried about going to Nationals reveals the true coaching talents, or lack there of, of Ron Helmer. And he is a selfish, two faced, liar and generally not a nice guy.
There appear to be two tie-breakers that apply here to settle Stanford & Ohio State.
1. Record against teams already in the championships. Stanford is 3-6 up to this point based on competition at Pre-NCAAs and at Pac-10s. Wins over Minnesota, Providence, and Wm & Mary. OSU is 2-18 up to this point based on competition at Pre-NCAAs & at Big 10s. Wins over Villanova & Michigan. Edge to Stanford.
2. Record against common teams. Stanford is 12-3 in this one and OSU is 4-7. Common opponents include Minnesota, Cal Poly SLO, Marquette, Utah State, UTEP, Oregon, California, UCLA, Washington, and Arizona. Edge to Stanford.
They never met head to head this season.
Based on this, it looks like Stanford goes in over Ohio State. Following from there, the West gets 7 teams in (down to UCLA) and neither Ohio State nor Indiana get in.
if Stanford is initially "pushed in" by Cal, but then has enough points to qualify in subsequent tallying, can the region then be allowed another "push" as the rules state only one "push" allowed per region?
That will have to be the ruling in order for ASU to Push Cal Poly and enable UCLA to earn berth with ample ponts, I think?
That's a very good question...I really don't know the answer.
I would imagine that the committee would run a few parallel scenarios (i.e. -- go ahead and have Cal "push" Stanford in early and then do one that let's them hang on long enough for Stanford to get in on their own). They probably do a few of these along the way, but it's got to be a lot of work.
Does anyone have insight on this? I know the rules say that only one "push" is allowed per region and that the "push" doesn't need to be used if the team is able to get in on its own late on.
Stanford is/was able to do so, William & Mary is not and neither is Cal Poly. So I see just two pushes to cover those last two teams.
Then again, I could be wrong. :-)
Here is my thoughts...
Autos
Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgetown, Villanova, OK State, Minnesota, Colorado, UTEP, Iona, Providence, Alabama, FSU, Arkansas, Texas, Louisville, NC State, Oregon, Portland
At-Large
William and Mary (pushed)
Virginia
NAU
ND
Iowa State
Tulsa
BYU
Stanford
Cal
Cal Poly (pushed)
ASU
UCLA
the final spot is up for grabs between IU and Syracuse.
No Head-to-Head Matchup
Lots of common opponents but the only two that matter are Michigan and Villanova
IU has a win over Michigan and a loss to Villanova
Syracuse has a win over Villanova and a loss to Michigan
So then you have to look at individual match-ups (i.e. 1-1, 2-2, etc)
This decision is hard. I feel bad for whichever team doesn't make it.
Does the margin of victory count? Indiana's loss to Villanova at Pre-Nats was 2 points
Isn't there some obscure tie-breaker that gives preference to the team with the highest placing individual at its regional? Two years ago I think Tennessee beat out Princeton and Providence because of that rule.
No, margin I dont think would count, I think it would come down to individual performance on each side. Syracuse had a better individual performance at regionals then IU did at their region, I believe Syracuse went 9,11,25,26 and IU went 5,14,42.
Why didnt Florida go to Notre Dame like they did in the past? seems like it cost them a trip.
To run at nationals this year you needed 2 points. just two points! last year it was one point.
why go to dinky meets at the beginning of the season if they were at risk of finishing 3rd?
In past years they have sent there team to Notre early in the season and beat one or two teams to get points.
This year they go to Auburn? get no points, run not so great at Pre-nats and gets a point at SEC when Alabama sits 2 guys out
all they needed was one more point. why not run an extra race in order to get it?

Stanford doesn't get pushed in by Cal because they have enough points to get in on their own (common opponents gets them in over Ohio State). That allows ASU to push in Cal Poly but prevents Ohio State pushing in Indiana later because that would be for the last spot.
The way I see it is:
NAU (8 pts)
ND (7)
W-M (push)
Va (7)
Iowa St (5)
Tulsa (6)
BYU (4)
Stanford (2)
Cal (11)
Cal Poly (push)
ASU (3)
UCLA (8)
Syr/Indiana (1)
Football team loses and mow cc doesn't qualify for Nationals. Rough weekend.
Any thoughts on the west women's at large teams, ASU, UW and UCSB?
I don't think Florida would have done as well at Notre Dame as in year's past. Hassen was coming off injury as was Criscione.
