Tyson does not have a walkers division. Pre Classic does not have a walkers division. Zurich does not have a walkers division. The Super Bowl does not have a rotisserie league division. In fact, you can't--officially--even get into Pre without ranking in the top 50 in the world in your event. Some European meets have been open to paralympians and such--but only if they meet performance standards first.
But in distance running, you have the backers of the marathon majors trying to make the media take the leaders seriously as world class athletes able to win large prizes, and at the same time you have people "running" marathons in 5:30 so they can convince their friends that they are "marathoners," "real runners," and the like--and then you wonder why the media doesn't take it seriously.
Is distance running a sport, or is it a fitness/fun walk activity? Just as soon as the NFL follows the Super Bowl with an all-comers game....
