So this disease causes one to start staggering around when the finish line is in sight? What kicks it off? I'm skeptical, but certainly willing to be educated.
Did Julia Stamps have the same thing?

i'm not sure that the point is that the finish line being in sight causes it - it's simply that point in the race where it appears because the athlete should be at their highest level of fatigue etc. at that point.
you're a douchebag, there was a link provided ealier in the thread that answered your questions perfectly, but of course you didnt look at it because you would rather spout off your BS.

Actually I read the article and nowhere did it explain the correlation between the end of the race and the onset of symptoms. Every time it's happened that I've seen documented it's been near the finish line even though the race distances are different.
What BS have I spouted. I admitted I was skeptical and asked someone to explain it to me.

Thanks, that makes sense.
and i quote "Staggering around like that isn't the result of some "weird medical condition", it self-justification for running shitty."
the answer to your question could be that every time she tries to kick her muscles just dont seem to be able to react. im not a doctor but if you read the article and put two and two together you can easily understand that it seems like every time she tries to exhaust her body to the limit in the last bit of a race, her body doesnt seem to want to react with her. no matter what the distance is.
Tauro was diagnosed with a condition known as Rhabdomyolysis. “Rhabdo” is a condition that can occur in athletes under strain in which muscle membranes begin to break down. This causes potassium in muscle cells to leak out into tissue spaces while sodium and calcium build up within the cells. An accumulation of myoglobin prevents the kidneys from properly filtering blood. Rare cases of Rhabdomyolysis have resulted in death.
I still think part of it is mental, but thank you for the clarification.
Can someone remove this thread? Yeast infection is not a very classy name to start the thread.
Dehydraton can also accelerate "Rhabdo." And when would a runner usually suffer from dehydration? Near the end of a hard effort, of course.
But you're right Suprise, she's just mentally weak and using her medical condition as an excuse to cover up a poor race. Congrats on finding out the truth!
well the next time you're diagnosed with this disease and you go from being one of the best athletes in the country kicking ass left and right to not even being able to finish the last 100 meters of races, im sure youll let us all know whether it's mental or not.
"Ladies are going down left and right"
One question: if these are not "drama queens," and there were many of them, why is it that you do not see the same thing happening with the many of the other women and the men? And the girl from Michigan, for whatever reason, could have walked faster than she was trying to run. Drama queens, indeed.
once again, someone who didnt read through the thread and decides to let their absurd ideas flow. READ THROUGH THE ARTICLE JACKASS.
I was talking about this with a friend and we both thought it was weird. I made the remark that maybe that's just what happens when you have a race where half the participants are anorexic and push themselves to the limit.
Is this normal behavior at these meets?

Personally, if I had this condition and people (per the article that I read like a good boy), die from it, I might cut my running career short.
You should learn how to be more polite.
Four years of high school... four years of top level D1 running... and five years out of school... and I have never seen such a thing. This video is embarrassing to me, as a female. I think it mostly has to do with the volunteers throwing runners to the side and then everyone else just following their example. However, if an official ever does that to me in a race, I look forward to bitch slapping them.

Forget Tauro in that... give her the benefit of the doubt... what the heck is up with all the others?!?
Falling down, stumbling around, acting like they are dying.
That's just stupid.
