If Aussies call flip-flops thongs, what do they call thongs?

The interviewer of the Flip flop guy has been a fairly serious triathlete for quite a few years now and he referenced Joe Burgasser who leads the Forerunners running club that has some of the best runners in the state/country. So the Flip flop guy has some pretty good credentials but mainaing a 5 minute pace seems extreme to me.
When I encountered the Flip flop guy he told me he liked the pace I was running and I'm an old slow dude clipping along at about a 9:30 pace.
He never stopped talking the whole run and I thought he was going to follow me home BUT he was far more interested in running the Pinellas Trail than hanging out.
I have had the pleasure of running with the guy a few times on my long runs. He's run under 8 min per mile with me for atleast 8 miles or so while i was running down the pinellas trail and then the other week he kept up with me when i was in the closing miles of my run, and i was running under 7 min per mile. He is really a great guy who is alot of fun to run with. Everyone who has ever run or biked on the trail knows his name. When i was running with him it felt like i was running with a celebrity or something. Pretty much he wakes up early in the morning and runs for hours on end. i would sponser the guy to go run an ultramarathon some where or even just a regular marathon.
Yes, I always see him along the Mount Vernon Trail (paralleling the Parkway). Once saw him having a normal conversation with a guy near Belle Haven, so think he might not be a raving homeless lunatic...just an eccentric runner.
Tedjo, very interesting. When I lived down in that area I used to see him a lot and at all times of the day. We'd always say, "hi," to each other, but nothing more. The guy fascinates me but I've never been in a situation where it felt okay to try to talk to him. Always passing him or going in opposite directions and I've never seen him when he's not running.

When I saw this thread I thought, "everywhere has SOME dude that is kinda like this. I see this one guy all the time..."
Most of my running is on the trail between Old Town and the G.Mason bridge into DC, although on Sundays I'll take the trip in the other direction down to Mt. Vernon.
Well since this morning I have spoken with 4 runners I know and they ALL know the flip flop man. I didn't realize that he was so widely known here in the St. Pete area but he is. One of the runners pointed out to me that he doesn't run with a towel fashioned as a cape but he runs, during sunny weather, with a long sleeved white or light colored shirt that he buttons at the neck and it flows behind him as a cape. would.
I was one of the runners doing speed workouts on the track doing 400s at 70-75 seconds. Larry would run up along side in his flip flops & ask, "What are you doing tonight Dick?" I would say, "quarters Larry". Larry would say, "Can I run them with you?" My answer was always, "Yes, but Larry I really can't talk when I am running these."
"G-Strings"...Im sure nither definition could be to comfortable for running in!
LOL Me too. I thought for sure they were going to talk about how often ROmney contradicts himself. How could anyone vote for that guy?
Do Real Men Wear Flip-flops?

“Let's be honest here,” she said. “The flip-flop is a frivolous piece of footwear with no substantive purpose in life [other] than as slip-and-go footwear. It's not a performance piece of footwear, and shoes really do make the man."
So glad Larry is too busy running to read this!

I saw the title of this thread and thought it was about Mitt Romney. Oops.
Wait a minute. I posted this exact same thing but about John Kerry before this schmo did, but I get banned and my post gets deleted. F*** you, letsrun moderators.
Real men wear slippahs / zoris cuz they stay ready for go to da beach all day.
Only loloheaded touris' mainlanders wear tings called "flip flops."
Flip Flop man wants to run with you. You name the place and time. Bring your slippas!
Another Pinellas Trail runner here... I've seen him live as well, and I had the same reaction to the 5:00/mile claims when I read this while sitting on the company crapper. Maybe he had that speed a while ago, though -- Burgasser certainly knows his stuff. We need to get him a LetsRun t-shirt.

You mean a LetsRun cape.
And a bag of LetsRun sugar. Domino uses the same blue & red on yellow color scheme.

Um, but he's lost all his teeth. DO you know what the bill for a dentist is to replace all your teeth?
