The Wisconsin Track Club put up large wooden mile markers for the certified 10k loop. Start near the Vilas Beach. Just West of the parking lot you'll see the 10k start. Run west, turn left behind Edgewood, and up to Monroe Street. You'll find Mile Marker 1 at the entrance to Wingra Park. Follow the bike path, go southwest on the road, to where the bike path turns, into the edge of the Arboreteum. Stay on the bike path until you reach Manitou Way- on the corner of Manitou Way and Nakoma Road you'll find Mile 2. Stay to the left up Manitou Way, turn South on Seminole Hwy, and turn into the Arboretum. In 500 yards you'll find Mile 3. 176 yards later you'll find the 5k split. Stay on the main road, always bearing left, and you'll soon find Mile 4 and Mile 5. Keep turning left out of the Arb, but stay on the road (at your own risk- if you follow the bike path along Wingra Park near Saint Mary's Hospital you'll be cutting about 50m) and, as you get back to Villas Beach, you'll see the 6 mile mark. Keep going another .2mi and you'll find the 10k mark about 20m east of the 10k start. Now do it again.
The WI CC coach put white dots every 400m. They are pretty close to the mile marks, but since 4x400m is less than a mile, the dots shift- useful for rough splits if you're so anal that you have to look (I always look). Have fun.
