There should be a fantasy cross country league (fantasy track in the spring). Anyone who has been in a fantasy football/baseball league knows how much fun it is to watch your team/players compete over the course of the season. It would be great to get a group of college running fanatics together and draft teams or individual runners and follow their ups and downs thoughout the season. Since as we all know it's tough to get info on teams not in your geographical area, maybe setting something up by conference or regional assignment would work best. I know it's a little late now, but the baseball league i'm currently in puts all the players in a pool and then each league (a group of, say, 10 of you and your buddies) ranks the runners by how you think they'll do on the season. i.e. for a Big Ten league (not in a researched, but off the top of my head for example purposes, order) 1. tegenkamp 2. bill 3. willis..., once everyone ranks, the computer divides up the runners like a tournament and the season begins. here's the tough part, how to get points (like baseball gets points for a HR or RBI). maybe it could be head to head like if your runner beats someone else's runner you get the point, maybe a bonus for winning a race. The second way for the league would be to draft whole teams and then accumulate points for the season in meets (chili pepper, pre-nats, conference meets). Anyway, i'm sure enought people out there get the idea and will enjoy pointing out the flaws of what i've said so far, but that's how progress is made. Now how can we make it happen. Yahoo and ESPN don't have fantasy cross country leagues... yet.
