He is scheduled to run but his baby is also due soon, so we will see if he actually runs
i stopped giving a rat's butt about dathan ritzenhiem about 2 years ago - then when he was throttled by team "long in the tooth" (goucher and culpepper) in boulder and had the audacity to say that he was skipping the big dance because the team wasn't going to be that good ... spanked by hall, et al the year before in xc, spanked by goucher and culpepper in boulder, "blisters", outkicked by webb in the 10k, floppy mcflopster at nyc, slower pr than rupp, nearly dfl in osaka, dnf at the olympics. good for dathan - since great north counts for nothing he will likely run very well. at this point, i think that he deserves hudson.
someone send a note to dathan - telling him that the olympics are in beijing china - in august - august 8th - august 24 - during this time, it is hot and humid. the average high temp is 85 and the average low is 69 with an average of 7+ inches of rain for the month - this means sweltering. note to dathan - if you qualify in new york in november - you will wilt in the beijing heat, do yourself a favor and stay home in november so that you do not suffer yet another humiliation.
did you guys wake up on the wrong side of bed? this is supposed to be a friendly website, a support group in a way.
Do you feel good about your life and all of the wonderful things you have accomplished? Dathan is a great guy who has had some awesome performances and some not so great performances just like everyone else. He is one of America's better distance runners and will be a factor in NYC, hell he's only run one marathon and I will wager he learned a lot from his last time out in NYC.

-man, you are definetly in the wrong place if that's what you're looking for. nothing but assholes abound here.

So our whole marathon team should give up because racing in NYC will not prepare them for the weather in Beijing? Makes sense.

I doubt he cares what you think either.
He was pretty successful at last year's Great North Half.
Dathan running any half should be big news on Letsrun.

I hope he doesn't turn up in London as the race is in Newcastle, hence the name "the great NORTH run",
(for your education, London is in the south!)
Thanks for that, Mr. Sunshine.
I still think he's an untapped distance talent. Injuries are no excuse, but IMO, if he didn't hit those injuries over that 2-3 year span and was fairly healthy instead, he'd be doing some great things right now.

If Ritz were a stock, he'd be considered a good "value" play. He definitely hasn't seen his best days in the longer distances. The good news is that he hasn't had any serious injuries over the last 2 years.

I was just going to say that but you beat me to it!
Yes, if Ritz runs a half in London on Sunday I think that he'll be running alone or with joggers in Hyde Park.
I've never been to Newcastle but I've carried coals there many a time.
Who said being positive was a bad thing?
1. The last I checked dathan beat webb at prefontaine in the 2mile and was only like 3/10 off of webb\'s personal best so i think that it is unfair to say that webb is really any better of an upper distance guy.
2. Everybody runs bad races. His marathon debut is actually faster than abdi\'s and its not like abdi has since gone 2:08 or anything.
3. I wouldnt doubt that after his 9th place at worlds and his early thrashing of mottram this year that ritz is in way better shape than last year and has at least a shot at hall\'s AR if its a good day.
