Why doesn't Suzy bump up and run some 5k's? She has the strength as evidence from XC Nats a few years back. With her wheels would probably a contender in any final. What ya all think?

She probably would not be willing to bump up her training mileage.
It's something she should have done a long time ago. It'd great to race the 1500m, but she will never outkick anyone in a 1500m -- Jacobs has proved that time without number.
But I fear it is too late for her to get involved in the 5,000m.
did regina drastically bump her mileage when she broke american record?
I think Suzy's chances are just as good in the 15 as they are in the 5. The 5 just seems crazy competitive lately. I don't see anything easy about closing a 14:45 race with a couple of 66's. But, it would be interesting to see her try.
Well, you know, if Suzy made it through the rounds of a major championships and ran an intelligent final equal to the bunch of sub-4:00s she's run, she could still get a silver medal behind Ayhan. Not that I'm predicting that's ever going to happen. But the point is, the 1500 IS her best event.
Ultimately she would have been much better at 5,000m and 10,000m. Taking that 3:57 to the 5 and 10 would have made her a threat on the world scene.
But the 1500m is the banner event in this country and she probably doesn't want to train like Kidane and Adere do.
15:06 is her PR, she has only run it a few times if that.
Suzy doesn't really run enough mileage to race the 5,000. Regarding her kick, you obviously never saw her before she injured her Achilles in 1999. The year before at Pre she blew Regina away with a 56 last lap. Since the injury, though, she seems to have lost her explosion and relies on a fast pace/long kick. All Regina has to do is sit on he.
Suzy is an 800/1500 type who ran a couple of good but not great 5000s. There's nothing to suggest she'd do anything special in the 10,000.
Look, physically, she's an abundantly talented middle distance runner. If she could somehow run her best race in a championship 1500 final, she'd be a medalist. This talk of moving her to another event is just plain silly.
It's silly in that she has no real hope running the 5,000m competitively at this point.
It's not silly in that she should have been pointed to the 5 and 10 for some time now. She could have been among the best in the world. But now it's too late.
