Let it go.....She fixed the entry. Let her get on with her training.

here it is, on her postcard

she couldn't get comp'd so she crossed it off her list? Well, I've just crossed her off my list as a former fan. She now joins the list of 'full of myself' types that while they may be great runners are flawed in their personality makeup. Though I wish her no ill will and hopes she continues to have a great career.
I miss the talent, personality and humility of the great Joan Benoit. There was no "Team Benoit" when she won Gold in '84.
where have you gone Joe Dimaggio, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you....woo, woo, woo.....what's that you say Mrs. Robinson, Jolt'n Joe (couldn't get comp'd at Paso Robles) has left and gone away...he won't run today
I cannot find evidence of this on Deena's website or in any paper or official publication. This seems to be found solely on letsrun.com, go figure. If someone isn't willing to provide evidence of her supposed choice to skip this race because of the entry, then don't bother complaining about something you are unsure of.
look at the 1st 'tiny pic' a few posts up...from 'no more applause'.....geez guy, at least try before making an erroneous proclamation like that.

Posted above.....
A lot of you people need to grow up. Deena is a professional runner. SHE RUNS TO MAKE MONEY. Do any of you do your job for free?
Take the quote off here website:
"I was going to race a 10K in Paso Robles, CA where some of my favorite California wines come from, but the race director wouldn't give me a complimentary entry. I crossed it off my list."
Now pretend Deena was a professional software developer:
"I was going to work for Google in Mountain View, CA where some of my favorite search engines come from, but the division supervisor wouldn't meet my salary requirements. I crossed Google of my list."
There thats all there is to it. She is explaining to those who follow her career why she chose not to take a job. She made an offer to run (ie. do a job) for some compensation (an entry fee, a hotel, whatever). The offer was refused. She took her services elsewhere. It was the RD's right to refuse her offer. I was her right not to work for free. END OF STORY.
are you as DUMB as you sound? Your analogy is totally ridiculous. It is about a 'poor sport attitude' not about anything else you dimwit.

A running study in
Leona Helmsley
Hey… if you would pay me?
Yeah… my regular fee
Hey…you don't deserve me
You got me really pissed
I crossed you off of my list
Your name is never was
Your names forgotten
Hey, so glad if you would pay me
Yeah, my regular fee
Hey, theres only us left now
When I wake up in Paso Robles
Its too early for that race
Wilted and faded somewhere in Mammoth
Im glad I came here
With your pound of flesh
No second billing, cause I'm a star now!
Oh, Cinderella
They arent mutts like you
Beautiful vineyards, beautiful tastings
Can you stand up or will you just fall down?
You better watch out
What you wish for
It better be worth it
So much to die for
Hey… if you would pay me?
Yeah… my regular fee
Hey….so glad to worship me
When I wake up in Paso Robles
Have you ever felt so used up as this?
Its all so shameless
Runner/wifey
Model/actress
Oh, just go nameless
Honeysuckle, shes full of herself
She obliterated everything she kissed
Now shes fading
Somewhere in Mammoth
Im glad I came here
With your pound of flesh
You want a part of me?
Well, Im not selling cheap!
No, Im not selling cheap!

Of course not..... but I also don't ask strangers to pay for my decadent vacations. If I ever lowered myself to do this, if they turned me down I would not diss them publicly on my website.
I didn't read through all nine pages but did anyone post the fact that (according to the website) 100% of all the entry fees are going to charity? The costs of the race are taken care of by the sponsors. I am sure that had something to do with the denial of a comped entry.
How do you not comp the bronze medallist from Athens an entry? That is so retarded. If its the Tuesday Night Two Dollar 5K and I'm organizing it, I comp her an entry. If its Boston, I comp her an entry. That's the bit I can't get past. It shows disdain for running not to get her into your race, so that your other participants can have the excitement of toeing the line with one of the greats. Who gets to tee it up with Tiger for under 50K if they aren't on Tour? In running, you can line up with Olympians for the price of entry. Unless the race director sniffs at giving that Olympian a comp'd entry. Its the TNT mentality, or the Jeans Marines mentality - who gives a crap about who is out front, I'm doing an 8 hour marathon, and I'll cut the course if I want to. That isn't racing. And surely if you organize a race, its about racing. Anyone can go out for a run anytime he or she wants. But you choose to organize a race and one of the nation's premier runners asks for a comp'd entry and you say... no?!? If that is your attitude, you should be organizing walkathons or bake sales.
First point: You have no idea Deena asked for anyone to pay for any vacation, much less and "decadent" vacation. That is entirely a fabrication of your own imagination. The only information available is that she asked for a comped entry valued at less than $25.
Second point: Deena made no attempt to "diss" anyone on her website. She simple stated that she would not be running at Paso Robles and why. Any "diss" is also entirely a fabrication of your own imagination.
Did it ever occur to you that Deena may have simply wished to inform her fans that they would no longer be able to see her run in Paso Robles as they were expecting? I live in the Bay Area and I had heard she was going to run. I might even have made the drive down to see her. God forbid she try to save her fans the drive.
correction: any "decadent" vacation

If you live in the Bay Area then you should be familiar with the Jim Jones Syndrome. Keep drinking the Koolaid.

Complimentary entry can mean many things. How do you know it is valued at less than $25? She may have expected transportation and lodging along with the entry fee. I hate the fact that roadracing has turned into a big charity gig, but any money going out to runners would take away from the amount given to the charities.
