I think she's being cheap, end of story.
I think she's being cheap, end of story.
She was being cheap and petty by posting it on her blog. What got lost on this thread is that she realized her error and fixed it and moved on. Why some of you cannot do the same is just as petty.
all in all, the race director must be an idiot.
Who wouldn't want Deena at their race? Did he really need the entry fee? Poor marketing skills.

Who wouldn't want to run a race in their favorite wine country? Did she really need the entry fee? Poor public relations skills.
Sounds like a mistake on both ends. End of thread.
Poor marketing on Deena's part.
THe peanut gallery is to be commended! here we are 14 pages into a discussion on whether Deena Kastor is cheap or not and nobody has referenced her religion....unless I missed something
Congratulations everyone. There is hope for humanity afterall.
I'm a Deena fan myself. Whether she deserved a comp entry or not is debatable, but what is beyond debate is the fact that she has done nothing to deserve the muck raking slanderous bullshit that has been written about her here.
In the collective lifetimes of everyone who has contributed to this witch hunt, malley included, we will never achieve what Deena Kastor has achieved in running nor will we give back a fraction of what she has given to the sport.
EVERYONE...STFU AND THANK DEENA KASTOR EVERY NIGHT BEFORE YOU GO TO BED FOR HELPING TO SAVE DISTANCE RUNNING IN THIS COUNTRY.
Just wanted to add another vote of support for Deena.
I think the only people who screwed up in this case are the posters who've blown it out of proportion. Seems like the RD made a silly mistake, and Deena wasn't careful enough on her blog. No serious crime on either part.
Some of you fellas on the other hand...
What has Deena ever given back to the sport?

It's nice to know Deena has classy supporters with names like "pokeyourmom."

I blame malmo for all this myself.
If he'd only offered a hotel room as well as the entry fee we wouldn't be having this discussion.
Cheap ba$tard.
I think that malmo offered Deena $525 (25 + 500) to reconsider and run the race. We could use more cheap ba$tards like that.
I fail to see how Deena being a faster runner than I ever will makes my opinion on the matter any less. The experiences Ive had over the years and the friends Ive met- I wouldnt trade my running life with hers ever- and Im sure she wouldnt trade hers with anyone either.
The race director had every right to deny her, as she did to not go. It reminds me of people complaining about a famous baseball player charging for autographs, there are two sides to the issue.
The fact that many of us feel it was petty and a little selfish of her is just our opinion. Id rather see that money go to a local runner anyway.
Somebody show Deena the way to the apostrophe key on her keyboard.

Let it go.....She fixed the entry. Let her get on with her training.

well, that was way over the top, wasn't it? Tonight, I'll skip by prayer to God and insert Deena Drossin.
How the hell did she save distance running in the USA?
Did I miss the memo that said no one could run again until a US woman won a medal in the Oly marathon?
Hey, great race by her, but ease up on the hyperbole.
You're missing out on Boulder Bolder, among others.

malmo,
Years ago, when a buck was a buck, when a man was a man,and all that, a kid blew into Boulder (and hasn't left) from a school in Boston. He was a good runner. I was charging $1.00 to enter a 5 mile race and the winner got a housefull (sic) of furniture. He asked me to waive the entry fee because he was too good to pay. I told him that if a dollar was too much to pay for all that furniture, he should stay home. He did. I'm not sure that he would have beaten Sinclair anyway.
Ricky Rohypnol.
Hey, this thread didn't bring out all of the nut jobs. Unless I missed it, no one told Deena that she adding to Global Warming.
This is some info I got from this race's website:http://www.hobfunrun.com/
"The Heritage Oaks Bank Family Fun Day & Fun Run was established in 1998 with a 5K race and 1 mile walk. The event started somewhat humbly, but our vision has always been to create a marquee event in our community.
We set out not only to encourage community participation, but also to draw the running world to Paso Robles. Only six years later, the Heritage Oaks Bank Family Fun Day and Fun Run is being compared to some of our nation's premier events, such as Bloomsday, Boulder to Boulder and Carlsbad.
Heritage Oaks Bank has made a commitment to the growth of this event. By partnering with various community sponsors, we have been able to make this event an unqualified success."
I'm not sure how they're going to 'draw the running world to Paso Robles' by snubbing the elite of the sport and I've never heard of it until yesterday. Rather than an 'unqualified success' it's really an absolute shame and they should get rid of that race director. He even has his picture on the home page. Seems like another self-absorbed Dean Karnazes-type.
this part is well-said, even if it is written by someone with the screen name "pokeyourmom"
