Well you are right. I do believe that Brian and Clint and Mellissa and Chad and Kyle and Mike and Trent and Dot and every other runner that I have come in contact with, care about ME. The reason that I am such a big fan of the program is because of how these athletes talk to the regular Joe like me. I believe in these athletes and I don't think that they feel forced to ask about my running. I have learned more about running from Clint Verran than any book or magazine could possibly teach me. If you are telling me that these guys and gals are being forced to talk to me, then it changes my complete image of the program. I am a fan of the program because of the openness of the athletes. I don't want any athlete to feel like they were forced to talk to me.

Come on, man- don't be naive. Of course they probably enjoy talking to you weekend warriors, but it's part of their contract with the Hansons. The Hansons are not running a charity, they're running a business. While they do invest a very admirable amount of their own money into the program, they rightfully expect their athletes to perform certain duties in return. Working in the stores and making public appearances are the biggest two requirements.

As plenty of former Hanson guys will attest, the program is what it is. It's a great opportunity, but it's not the right fit for everyone.

I just got off the phone with C. Lundstrom. He explained to me that his whole game plan for the marathon was to "sit in Jacobs pocket" and outkick him at the end. His plan became unraveled when Jacob used his perfuse sweating tactics to separate himself from the competition. At mile 2 Jacob was fully saturated. Going up a hill, Lundstrom got himself into trouble when little sweat droplets flew off of Jacobs tender little elbows and landed in each of his eyes. Burning like gonorrhea, Chris was forced to stop at a water stop and rinse his eyes to regain at least half of his vision back. Come mile four, Chris was trying to catch back up to Jake. The only problem was that Jacob's fully soaked shorts worked like a water truck on the course creating a traction nightmare for competitors who followed.

Let this be a lesson to all of you. Don't sit in the pocket, especially the saturated pocket of Jacob Frey!
