Who wins?
Who wins?
good question. I would actually bet against Bekele in that one. I think 2000 is just short enough that Webb's speed would be too much for KB.
Bekele has a world record at 2000 metres. His indoor 4:49 is five seconds slower than El Guerrouj's 4:44.
To put it mildly, he's a very good runner and an even better racer.
Until they race the distance, whichI bet they won't at the next WC or Olympics or anywhere else, speculation is pointless and a waste of board space. Take it elsewhere, please.
Webb would almost certainly beat him in a mile, and Bekele would win at 3000. Bekele ran 4:49.99 indoors for 2000, so the question is could Webb run 5 laps in sub 58? He just ran more than four laps at 56.4 per lap. Probably right now he could do it. Then again, so could Bekele. I'd say Webb over Bekele, 4:49.1 to 4:49.3. This race would be very close.
That could potentially be one of history's greatest matchups, assuming that Webb carries his momentum through Osaka. If Lagat ever gets back to his old self, he could be the "x" factor.
you mean his young self
If there're no rabbits than I have to pick Webb. I can't see Bekele shaking him with 3:53 1600 or something. With rabbits, it's closer, but I think Webb does what he's done all year, which is let Bekele lead at 300, and then track him down the last 50 meters.
Bekele can run the last lap of a 5k/10k in 53 seconds and he has covered a 5k in 12:37. Right now, I think Webb could take Bekele in a 2k. Webb of 2007 vs. Bekele 12:37, I pick Bekele.
Kenny B would not be able to close out a fast 2000 in 53 at all. If he went with 500 to go and gapped Webb, I'd take Bekele. If they are together with 300 to go, I take Webb.
Webb. He can cover any move by KB and smoke hiim in the end.
Bekele will beat web at the 1500 and 2k.

Definately not at the 1500. Even with his superior endurance, Webb still could hang on and then just kick him down the last 100m.
it's true if Bekele could be the best in the world in the 1500 he would, Webb is the best, and there is no way Bekele would beat Webb in a 1500 right now, Webb's PR is faster, and not to mention the idea of beating Bekele would push Webb to a new level
Webb is likely the victor in this contest. That will be an excellent matchup...
Kenenisa will have to pound webb earily to take the sting off his sprint finish..
If he did that he could beat webb. One thing we have not seen from Kenenisa is 1500 speed.
He has 3:33 to his credit which is lightyears away from 3:30.. but we saw how a healthy lagat can beat kenenisa... so it is a little outside his range.
If kenenisa dedicated himself to middle distance running i have a feeling that he can produce a 3:29.
But that is all theory...
I think Webb could challenge KB in a 5k right now. I think he is mentally ready for a great 5k. If he runs it this year, I would predict low 12:50's.
What they should do is set up a series of races, using the best runners in the world and maybe the Golden LEague Meets.
800, 1500/mile, 2000, 3000, 5000, 10,000.
Everyone has to choose 5.
Race and use points from those IAAF Tables to determine the winner.
Give appearance and prize money- the same appearance fee for everyone.
Start with Webb, Bekele, Mottram, ...
It could be a close one (and for sure very interesting). I would bet on Bekele.
Kenny B, baby!!!!
Of course, Morceli, Ngeny, and El G would blow them both off the track in a 2000.
I would say Bekele, too.
