There was a post earlier about icing in the area of the stress fracture to help break away scar tissue. I just need a quick response. Does anyone know if this is also true for a tibial stress fracture? Does icing help break away the scar tissue?

iam having the same problem, i had a stress fx in my left tibia 6 months ago and im now trying to come back. i gradually built up 10min-6miles over a period of 2 1/2 months and then recently ive had some pressure and tender pain in my fracture spot, but when i press the bone it doesnt hurt just the area. it hurts too when im walking or running, just a feeling like something is there and the need to massage it, but then pain comes when i do. i have been iceing religiously and also wear custom orthotics. is this a tendon or muscle pain? i have taken a week off and its gotten slowwwwly better. thanks.

Almost exactly explains my situation. Got a stress fracture (lower right tibia) before the first outdoor meet. I was doing some really hard running on roads. I was out for around 5 weeks. Ran all on grass when I got back + biking etc...but yes, that...not nagging but kind of tender / wanting a massage feeling. Nothing sharp at all. And it's still kindddaaa there, even like 5 months later. And about the Scar Tissue...Either there is a huge growth in my bone, or where my Stress Fracture was there is an OK sized outcropping or somthing or another. Nothing at all visisble but you can feel it. It's either Scar Tissue or the calcium etc...that has clung to the injury spot.
My approach to that "little annoyance" is to 1)Bounce on the leg that has it up/down on cement...fairly vigorously. If you can really feel it...back down. 2) Run...! Usually I'll evaluate if it hurts as I hit the ground. If it doesn't...and it's hurting when my leg isn't on the ground, that's probably nothing to worry about.
thanks, the pain comes when i touch it and massage it right away, then goes away if i rub the bone. its weird it comes at random times and its an annoying feeling and pain thats there but not the bone. so if it does hurt to run on it should i back off? or would running break that up more, i just dont want it to be like tendonitis or a muscle strain. its really weird cause everything before was going smoothly and now there some weird pain there on top of the bone or area.
bump,
i tried running today after 9! days off and it still hurt to run, though hopping on the leg doesnt hurt. whats the deal?
I actually am returning to running myself from a 4th metatarsal fracture (total fracture). I had done a slow and steady running progression and was up to 3.5 miles over 3 weeks, and when I jumped up to 30 minutes from there my foot has been starting to swell a big right where the fracture was. It doesn't hurt, but the sensation of pressure is new to me and I was wondering if it was a bad sign or just a sign of the foot adjusting to the higher mileage.
I saw that you also experienced the swelling and was hoping for some additional input!
Thank you!
