Not according to this:
Men Outdoor 1 Mile
(Last update: 01 June 2007)
Age group Mark Name Country Age Meet Date Meet Location
M 35 3:52.48 John Walker NZL 36 02.07.88
M 40 4:02.53 David Moorcroft GBR 40 19.06.93
wow a high a school kid runs 4:03 and there are zero comments, zero fanfare. Too bad, Centro seems like a nice kid, not a shameless, transparent self-promoter type. Kudos to ya Matt.
It's am American record, but Moorcroft is safe for now. Here is a summary:
did anyone see that there was also a 55 y.o. running..thom burleson...4:46 this past weekend and 4:48 yesterday. Not too shabby when you consider most men his age consider "speed work" seeing how fast they can make it to the toilet.

I never knew that pic was from his state meet sub 4. I like the utter excitement on everyones face. I couldn't imagine seeing a race like that in a state meet today and this was 40 something years ago.
Nice race by Centro, just off his time from Reebok earlier this year. Great senior year and HS times, hope he does well at Oregon!
So this master runner basically clocked a 3:44 1500. If he went back to school he could qualify for the NCAAs. He would certainly be a very competitive D2 runner. If he took some classes could he run in the NCAA again.
Hey, Sorensen would be faster than any of our Rutgers milers!

4:05 is about a 3:47 1500.

Tom Burleson 4:00.6/1:49 back in the day, ran for Butler, then went on to train with Athletics West. He wore his Athletics West singlet in the race on Wednesday. US and World records for his age group are 4:42 and 4:40
Sorensen ran 3:44.06 to set a World Masters Record in an open 1500 in early June, his 4:05.27 roughly coverts to 3:47. He also holds the Masters 800 recordfor USA at 1:51.57

If you've ever seen the Jim Ryun documentary that's been out for a few years, at the very end there is footage of the entire race, start to finish.
It's silent, and looks like it came from an old 8mm home camera. It's eerie to watch, this soundless video of this scrawny high school kid silently circling a cinder track in the greatest performance ever in high school competition. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up to watch it.
It is presented very powerfully, with no introduction or explanation. At the end of the video, it just starts playing. It took me a second to realize what it was, and then the "Oh, wow. . ." factor set in.
where is last nights meet results?
You wonder whether Ryun - and other former world bests ( like Henry Rono to name one ) - will catch the bug to chase down their peers and re-write the master's record books.
Jim Sorensen has inspired so many of us with his accomplishments. I'd love to see four or five top-tier masters come together and run the "perfect" race. Maybe we wait until he's 41 for such theater to play out. Give the major networks a chance to bid for the rights.
And , young Mr.Centrowitz , your dad is very proud - as is the great state of Maryland. Well done.
The rest of you , lace up those shoes and set your sights on your own milestones.
You underestimate how hard this would be for even these greats. Not only have they not trained for at least a decade, they would have to be able to handle killing themselves for months on end to do series of 400's under 75 or mile repeats in 6:30 at the start.
Guys like Sorenson, Rodgers, and Aufdemberghe never completely got away from the sport.
Personally I don't know how Sorenson does it, doing killer workouts and putting up with the sacrifices just to be the best Masters runner. I guess it has to be worth it and I'm 40 myself.
