just saw him on Good Morning America, running on that treadmill in Times Square; pretty amazing endurance, but....but a publicity whore. If he was any good at competitive running/racing, he would be in Indianapolis this weekend.

This is not the first time he has attempted to world record.

9:00 pace for 150+ consecutive miles is pretty damn impressive. No one else posting on this thread right now could do that. Not even close.
And someone else made a good point that Dean may not have that much to do with all the "America's Greatest Runner" promotions. Sponsors push all that propoganda to sell their products. I seriously doubt DK ever said, "Make sure in your advertisements that you let everyone know I am America's greatest runner. I am much better than all those track guys like Lagat and Webb." No way.
And yes, every single one of you would jump at the chance to get as much publicity, money, and endorsements as DK. So don't even cop that holier-than-though purist bullshit.
I agree that DK kinda takes away interest from the real pros and Olympians like Meb, Lagat, Kastor, Webb, etc. But it's not his fault that he's more interesting to the public than boring old track and field. DK is marketed better. USATF could learn a thing or two.
DEAN K --- WORLD'S GREATEST JOGGER!!!!

Not only is this occurring at the same time as the uSATF meet, it's right before the Western States 100, which Dean K would actually be In if he was talented as he's led some people to believe.
Solid point
i met him. i think he would claim to be the greatest, which is a joke. that guy is all about himself..i would like to see him fall off that treadmill.
He is registered for WS100 this weekend, typically he finishes between top 10 and has 10 buckles for sub 24 hour finishes...
I'll stop by after work to check his penguin a$$
Am I seeing this correctly? Is there a big video of him above the NASDAQ sign in Time Square? They should be showing coverage of US Nationals. This is bull. I don't blame this fool, I blame USATF. If he can get 24 hours of live video of himself in Time Square, then why can't USATF promote the sport better.
PILLOWBITER!!!!
No, I think you need to cut the bullshit, sweety, and remove the rose-tinted glasses that is obscurring your vision. First, your contention that no one else on this thread could do what he does is flat out wrong. The reason that a person doesn't is because it is akin to a stupid human trick that is used strictly to garner attention. There is no real talent or greatness involved. It is shallow.
And, yes, other people help him out with regards to the marketing, but he is the one that does the stupid human trick and soaks it all in. He has plenty of opportunity to cease the outrageous claims before they are public, OR at least he can stop them after the fact. I would be ashamed if I took money from people making stupid-ass claims about my greatness when I knew better. There have been people who have run every day for 20-30 years. In my opinion, they are more noteworthy than Dean, but you don't see them claiming (or allowing others to) their greatness do you?
Getting paid for something does not automatically make it right. Do you excuse drug dealers and prostitutes? I would excuse people in these professions before I would Dean. In their case, you at least know what you're getting. Dean merely sells a lie. A little self-puffery is expected among athletes, but Dean is off the charts when it comes to self-promotion. Dean is fine, however, if your morality is such that it is OK to lie for your gain at the expense of others.

And one week after Comrades.
How does he go to the bathroom? And are they projecting that to Times Square as well?
I'd like to see any of you Karno bashers do what he's doing. Karno is an animal.
"Hailed as America's best runner"
Somebody please make it STOP.
"and he has a resting heart rate of 39 bpm - we think that's pretty cool"
Just shoot me now - I'm going to take up ultimate frisbee or something and quit this stupid sport once and for all.
ok, you got to give him credit in one regard...he found a niche in the non competitive running world and exploited it to make a buck....it's the american way.....forget about it.
If you are a fast sprinter you do the 100 meters... We all run the shortest distance we are "good at." Look at Junior High track meets, EVERYONE is in the 100 meters excet for the few skinny people who will get smoked so they run longer but slower. Less people run that far...
Well with more and more people pushing endurance competitions like the marthon and Ultras like Comrades and Western States 100 he has to do things no one else wants to do.
If he was the best ultra runner he would win Western States 100 year after year...oh wait someone already does that. Unfortunatelty Dean has the marketing skills so the good runners are left out. The really good runers should have better publisists!!!

I could, and no, I am not kidding.
