I thought if they left school in good academic standing they did not count against the school.

McDonnell was great for the program and has had a great 20 year run; but all things must end. There is a season, turn, turn, turn. Time to retire.

You are a complete moron. Not only do you not know how the system works, you actually think those two cases would put them as one of hte worst programs in the country....

For example say there are two 4.0 students and one decides to transfer before graduating and one decides to quit and focus on their thesis project. Both of them would be counted as FAILURES BY THE NCAA and would count against a teams APR. AGAIN THE SYSTEM IS BS FOR ALL SCHOOLS/SPORTS!!
You are half right. The 4.0 student who transfers before graduating scores 3 out of a possible 4 points towards APR (.750) in the year he transfers. The student who quit the track team to focus on thesis project still scores 4 out of a possible 4 points for the year (1.000). Points are awarded as folled
1 per semester for returning to the university and 1 per semester for remaining eligible (by NCAA standards) to compete.
If a student leaves the track team but is ACADEMICALLY ELIGIBLE to compete had they wanted to, they still get the eligibility point. If he also remains in school he gets the retention point.

Ark is known for treating their track athletes like a top football program does their athletes. They basically cheat to get good grades. Hell how do you think Gay ever passed a class? We already know he's a cheater.
WRONG! ncaa football players do get a shit load of breaks and chances, but because arkansas is the giant of track and field, you think they get academic breaks? WRONG! beleive it or not, baseball at arkansas gets more attention than track. basketball gets more attention than track and obviously football is king over there. trust me, arkansas track does not have the attention to "ball out" like other sports can. they are the norm with other track programs when it comes to academics.
the tyson gay case occured before he entered arkansas. it was a math test entrance course outside of the university- not a arkansas classroom thing as you would like to think.
so once again... WRONG!
where do you come up with your ideas?
I think they arent doing as well because they stop training with distance and doing shorter runs but twice the pace. I hear that all their runs feel like workouts or races, therefore people get injured and sick. When they were dominating they were using a lydiard approach, lots of long distance stuff, but now they are using an american approach, short runs at fast pace.

Did they ever use a Lydiard approach? It is true they run pretty low mileage for a top program, and they do almost nothing but intervals, but I think they still take their easy days easy. Still, I happen to think 90% of the reason they're good in xc is the fact that they get such amazing talent to go there. When you're getting several 4:10 HS milers nearly every year or some transfer from another country it isn't very hard to be good. I went to a meet there this indoor season and they seriously had like 10 guys who ran 4:11 or faster (or an equally impressive 800, 1200, or 3000), but guess what? They all had run quite similar times several years ago in HS, some several seconds faster. I improvement is a little less noticeable when you're running 4:07 or so as a 17 year old, but damn. Two years later and you're still running around 4:11 each week?
After badmouthing Arkansas I have to say I have a lot of respect for John McDonnell. He is a great man and has produced some amazing runners and teams over the years, but the last two years have not been so good. Sickness is indeed responsible for some of it.
Hoooray for non scholarship schools like Cornell!
Isnt a guy leaving arkansas to jump for Cornell...what a turn of the table huh ...
and they talk shit too
