there really isn't much to discuss. the answer is nick willis. perhaps alan webb will change that this season (if his 3:51 in April was a sign of good things to come), but as things stand now, willis has the edge on webb.

You have got to be kidding. Webb is definitely the better one at this point in their careers. Webb will run 3:47 this year, and I don't think Willis will come near that.

Right. Webb will have a shot at 3:47 at the Pre Classic....but Willis will have a shot at an actual medal at the WCs.

I am fairly sure that Nick Willis has not beaten Alan Webb anytime recently. Maybe ever?
When they both ran Pre a few years back, Webb won by a huge amount of time. Four seconds or so?
And in what world is 3:35 1500 better than a 3:51 full mile exactly? For Webb, 3:35 is a mediocore race.

willis is legit no doubt but until he runs faster and beats webb regularly or at least a few times webb has the obvious edge

Do your research...Willis is faster over 800m and 1500m. And, watch the race today. Compare to Webb's 3:51 at Drake. Tell me who looks easier. Willis, hands down.

I'm so sick of this crap - everyone is so obsessed with TIMES, does anyone care about WINNING anymore?
What matters more? Running a 3:45 mile or winning an Olympic Gold medal? The medal.
We're all so obsessed with running fast times that no one ever cares to consider the point of racing: to win.
Willis is a better competitor. Webb is a headcase. Webb will, no doubt, run faster times than Willis in 1500m and the mile (in paced races and time trials). But Willis is a contender. This guy is going to pull in some great performances at World Champs and the Olympics. I'd like to see some more Americans step up to the plate and learn to compete like Willis rather than Webb.
of course willis looked easier running 3:35 than webb did running 3:51. 3:35 is a slower pace and webb was running by himself the last 600m so he really had to push himself. that comparison doesn't even make any sense. what are you trying to prove by it?
willis certainly has the talent though. it would be nice to see the two of them in the wc final this year. i bet webb runs faster than willis this summer though. when will webb's next race be? pre?

I agree, Webb is the better athlete but he can't handle pressure worth shit. Also, he doesn't know how to plan his season so he peaks when it counts.
It's a shame, because I truly think Webb is the faster runner, but Willis is the smarter runner.
Yeah Willis looked good, but a guy giving 93% effort while beating others giving 100% always looks good. As was already stated on another thread i think the naturally smooth stride makes Willis look easier than he actually is. When Webb ran 3:51 this year, yeah he looked like he was pushing it(and he was), but there was no frame of reference (other runners)b/c noone was in same frame as him. Webb at the moment, until Willis proves otherwise.
What is it exatly that makes Willis a "contender" but Webb not? The fact that he beat Lukezic, Myers and Cragg (stepping down) at the Home Depot meet( or whatever the hell is was)?
