He's the nicest guy you want to meet. I've spoken with him several times here on campus--at the coffee shop, by the Lyceum--and he's pretty much a model scholar-athlete. I'm surprised by some of the mockery and animus. Excellence sometimes brings that out in the talent-challenged, but still.
Oxford is certainly a fine place to run.
I watched Barnabas in the Ole Miss Invitational here about a month ago. He ran the 5000. After three laps, he was more than half a lap behind the leader, maybe 3/4 of a lap. (The leader appeared to be Kenyan.) Watching from high in the stands, I could see BK put on the pressure from that far back. Very high turnover. It was inspiring. Over the next 6-7 laps, he slowly caught up, then passed the guy with about a lap to go--just blew right by him and won the thing easily.
He's still developing. Good as he is now, I'd put my money on him continuing to surprise.
