I saw the Hansons Saturn bus in Grand Rapids today. I thought it was a little funny that those guys would be in town already. Why would you come into town 3 days early for a 3 hour drive? Oh well, welcome. The bus looks rock star cool.

to talk to running stores and do promotions. also sometimes the bus is there but the athletes arent.
I saw the athletes running on the course. Sorry I should have mentioned that.
Very typical Hansons. They are far and away the best at doing things for a race beyond merely competing, and realize pre-race press confs., clinics, school appearances etc. go a long way toward promoting an event and the sport in general. That's why they were at the Chi & Boston expos signing autographs when they could have been cooling their heels in their hotel rooms.
It doesn't hurt that Greg Meyer is the elite coordinator for the race - the Hansons like him and are more than willing to help out races he's affliated with (Crim is another example).
I am not trying to be rude and I think the Hanson's do a good job, but how come they get rock star treatment. Many of these training groups are having a rough time coming up with finances to continue and these guys continue to add sponsors. Team Monterey went under because of finances, Team Minnesota is constantly hustling in our area to get enough cash to survive. It doesn't seem fair. Team California has 2 Olympic Medalist plus the only american to ever break an hour for a half marathon and they have a mini van. I hope the Hansons live up to their star treatment, but right now it doesn't seem quite right.
It's right because they make the deals and raise the money themselves. The other groups could have talked to Saturn too and tried to work out a deal but they did not. These guys are way ahead of the curve in terms of funding their group. It's also a good step because they have gone outside of the box and looked for support from someone other than a shoe company. Props to them they deserve every penny.
Rockstar treatment after their Boston and Chicago performances are deserved. In chicago they come in shifts to hang at the expo and also come in for 2 other small time no prize money races as a goodwill. Yes, im sure its part of their agreement with chicago 'thon but they are loyal and that goes a long way.

Maybe these groups need to look at what Hansens are doing right rather than wondering what's going wrong. There's an old saying that some folks wait for things to happen and others go out and make things happen.
She'd be the 5th man on Hansons team.

NO SHE WOULD NOT.
Paula has never run as fast as; 1. Sell 2. Briney 3. Verran 4. Johnson 5. Morgan 6. O'Brien 7. Humphrey
None of the Hanson athletes have ever had the luxury of running on the London course. A course that allowed Paula and Deena to run a couple minutes faster. Otherwise there would be several other guys ahead of Paula.
I also don't believe that there is another training group in the US that currently has 7 sub 2:15:23 guys.
to be fair they have been on the Chicago course, which is also very fast.
there gonna need more then a saturn bus this weekend.

The same Chicago course that Deena couldn't break 2:20 on with pacers the entire way. The same Chicago course that Paula was able to run 2:17 on with Weldon pacing the entire way. A very fast course. Just not as fat as London.
Just saying it's not like the hansons are at some big disadvantage running on that course. 3 of the top 10 fastest mens time ever are run on that course (London only has two). 3 of the top 10 fastest womens times ever are run on Chicago as well, London has four. I'd say they are en par. Plus the Hansons have the benefit of more 2:12-2:18 guys in the race than in London.
In typical Lets Run fashion, I bring up the fact that I saw the Saturn Hansons bus in GR.
From this it becomes a put down of the Hansons.
Then a debate over Chicago vs. London.
The point was how cool the bus is. I did not mean any bashing unless someone has something negative to say about the bus. It just proves that everyone on here has an agenda.
Hansons,
If you are reading this. What are the chances of a local guy from GR taking a look at the inside of the bus?

I've spoken to the Hanson brothers. They told me they avoid this message board like the plague. I fully support them and all they do. They work hard at their sucsess and they deserve what they reap.

This thread is probably a perfect example of why?
Sell's quote on why he doesn't go on letsrun is a classic - "if I wanted to talk about running with someone who runs 18:30 I'd talk to my wife."

This is why the Hansons are wildy more popular than other training groups. They make themselves accessable to all of us mediocre guys. I feel that Brooks gets more for there money with Hansons than they would with any other avenue within elites. It looks like Saturn understands this and is going to piggyback off of what Brooks has already done. I and 30,000 other nobodies ran the Indy Mini this last weekend and Kevin spent 20 minutes talking to me about my race. Keith was there as well and they didn't even have any of their guys running. They are good for the sport.
1) What are you doing to improve US distance running?
2) What man would you be on the Hansons team?
