Aouita. Cram. Coe. El Gerrouj. Morcelli.
Probably best to cut the 800m guys out of the question, as most of them wouldn't do a 2hrs run (I said most not all).

I have a copy of Saids National Training program for 800 - 5000m guys and there are no 2hrs runs listed, but I'm no saying he never did them himself.

I know this is a joke, I actually thought it was funny.
But seriously, it's wrong. Phiddy ran something like 140k the day before his lethal marathon.
Anyway, back on topic, a friend of mine who ran with Bernard Lagat at WSU said that he never trained more than 35mpw even for xc. I doubt that there were any 20 milers in there.
I have no idea what his training has been like since leaving WSU 8 or so years ago.
dont forget Craig Virgin!
most of his runs where no longer than 12 miles.
One name: Wilson Kipketer

You're still wrong. Pheidippides didn't die after running in Marathon or after any other run - in fact, he wasn't in Marathon at all.
The distance to Sparta, FWIW, it 145 miles not kilometers.
wilson kipketer is scheduled to run the dusseldorf marathon sunday may 6th 2007.
