Hall: 59:43/2:08:24
Webb: 3:32/3:48/8:11/13:10/27:34
Ritz: 27:35/1:01:2x/2:14 debut (bonking after running 2:11 pace)
Teg: 7:34/13:04
Rupp: 27:33
All 24 or younger.
For Webb, Beijing would seem to be his best opportunity to get on the medal stand (not saying he will or I expect him to, just that the timing and circumstances are probably the best he'll ever have). He's 24 now, 25 when Beijing rolls around. He already has one Olympics and a WCs under his belt (2 WCs assuming he makes it this year by Beijing). No hugely dominant miler (a la El G or Morcelli) currently on the scene. He's 29 by the time London rolls around. Not old by any means, but he matured early and Beijing looks to be his best shot. Scott's mile AR seems likely to be his, but his tactics/racing skills are his wild card. The move to a more middle-distance (800/1500) orientation this year could help that by giving him a different skill set than he's had in recent years.
Hall has less national team experience but also seems to need it less. His poise in London was incredible. He's found his event and is running well beyond his years. He seems to have overcome his inconsistency of past years. Hope he runs the 10,000 at USATF and WCs this year before turning his attention to the Trial marathon. Nothing he does at this point would surprise me after what we've seen in the last six months or so.
Ritz has about the same national team experience as Webb, but is going to have to stay healthy. I'll be interested to see how the move to Eugene and impending fatherhood affect him. I still think he has sub-27:20/sub-2:10 potential and could see him dropping his marthon time a lot. Extremely competitive and seems to be constantly learning. His fragility will continue to be his wild card.
I still think the 10,000 will be Teg's best event but I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see him run the 5,000 AR and make the finals of 5,000 at WC's and Beijing if that's what he runs. I put his poise and racing smarts in the same category as Hall's. Also seems to have the consistency bugs of the past worked out and is well on his way.
Rupp. Man, hard to predict anything for this kid after yesterday. He laid out some major studs before he's even old enough to legally buy a beer. He's taken a different path to this point, but you can't argue with the results we saw yesterday. Considerable international experience for his age. I'm convinced the NCAA titles will come in due time, but if not, so what? Yobes Ondieki never won any, either, and he did OK (WC 5,000 gold, 10,000 WR and first sub-27:00).
A great time to be a fan.
