Better than Hillsdale? By what measurements?
Hillsdale was faster at 1-2-3-6-7-8-9-10
Penn was faster at 4-5
That is of course with the 2 races combined at Penn.

From Hillsdale:
Rono didn't look good, but still extremely impressive. When they read his credentials, I had goosebumps.
'They' you refer to is me & it was a pleasure to share w/others Henry's exceptional past! Word of his performances traveled many times slower back in the day than they would now...but we all were as awestruck then as many were over these past 2 days. He was busy talking w/folks and signing all things put in front of him this afternoon.
His splits:
400- 83
800-2:50
1000m- 3:32
1600m- 5:42
2000m- 7:09
2500m- 9:00
3000m- 11:00
3400m (1600m to go)- 12:35
5000m- 18:56
I was at Hillsdale this weekend, and it was sweet to meet Henry Rono and all of that, but seriously, the guy isn't performing even close to what the best runners are at in the 55-60 age group, I mean, come on. Posting his splits on letsrun, reading his training logs every day...its a bit overboard if you ask me.
Regardless of everyone who will bash me for this "hateful" post, I wish Henry the best, I think he is doing great, and I think his past performances are beyond exceptional, but I think the hype for Rono is absurd. But hey, if letsrun.com can have runs asking completely random questions such as "what should I buy my gf for valentines day," or "what is the best law school?" then I guess anything goes.
Just an observation.

How did I miss the "what is the best law school?" thread?
I'm not going to bash you for your post. People have their own reasons for contributing to, reading, or simply ignoring the lengthy thread about Henry. I started to write about my own reasons just now, but then thought better of it. Suffice it to say that I would have much less interest in a thread about Seb Coe or Jim Ryun training for a comeback.
What is amazing about Henry, that a lot of people may not know, is that in '81 he went from being completely out of shape to setting a WR in 2 months. The guy has lost 50 lbs in the last 9 months or so. I think the great results are yet to come. The thing that is slowing him down right now is his upper body and hamstrings. I could not believe how defined and toned his legs were when I saw him this weekend... the man is on a mission and I think he has a good shot at getting where he wants to go. I don't know if he will run 4:40 or not, but it won't surprise me when he does. I think it is great to have a firsthand look as to what is going on, so if/when he does do it, everyone will know the journey he went on to get there.
Flotrack has Rob Myers and Nick Willis interview up from the meet.
Between that performance and Terlouw's 4:05xx mile last night, Will Leer might have his work cut out for him at nats...[/quote]
Terlouw's race was great. I was right at the start/finish. When they passed the first time he was in the back of the second pack, and the next time he was at the start of the second pack. Then I almost didn't recognize it was him on the last lap, he really dropped the hammer and moved way up.
Where can I find a list of the fastest Mile times by D3 runners? Anyone know where this would ran Terlouw on the alltime D3 list?

Excellent point. When it comes to being 2nd, I always look to those Buckeyes.
Lets Go Gators!
What is an "ASTERIK"?
Maybe that's what goes next to the career line for Rik Smits? Or maybe it's the name given to a hybrid variety of aster created by a huge fan of the Pacers in the early '90s?
The two races you refer to, were actually separated for results purposes of differentiating between the open race and collegiate race. It was all on the track at the same time, actually.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?

How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?

Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
