me neither. 3rd place? Come on now.
-
Didn't Webb split 1:47 in a relay in high school? He should be running faster. El Guerrouj ran 1:46 in the last 800m of the Olympic 1500m in Athens.
-
It looks to me he got just was outpowered by a couple of strong 800 meter runners in a moderate paced race. While not great for him, I wouldn't be disappointed either. I would not be surprised if he and his coach feel the same way.
-
Par for the course for the world's most over-rated runner.
-
Webb needs to move up to the marathon like every other over-hyped white American. It's his only chance.
-
You people are ridiculous.
-
well it isn't a great time. And the only reason we are saying this is because he said how he wanted to drop his 800 PR which he didn't do. He didn't even win. This really doesn't matter much, it's just really unimpressive.
-
Not to bad of a showing for Webb. He is prolly still doing a pretty good amount of base work right now, and he most likely just ran an 800 to get in a good faster paced race in. And for those of you are saying that he ran that in high school, and that he should be running faster.....he also ran 3:53 in high school. Should he be running that right now? 3:57 was one of the fastest outdoor openers hes ever had. Hes in a good spot right now, and is setting up for a great season.

He didn't say he was going to pr in this race. He even stated that he wasn't easing off his training at all for this race. Plus, he did beat Sam Burley, who has a considerably better pr. Both Sam and Webb are simply gearing up for the summer. One cannot determine much from this race. -

Do you want to explain why you’re doing an 800 (at MT. SAC) at this point?
AW: The mile is my best event and it’s my favorite event, but I don’t want to do it every single time. Mix it up a little bit. One of my goals this year is to run a personal best in the 800, which I haven’t done in a couple of years. I don’t know If I’ll PR this weekend, but (let’s) get the ball rolling in that direction.
Chris Luzekic is in also in that field. Have you two prepared for this race together.
AW: Yeah. It’s obviously early in the season. We’re not tapering or anything by any means. Chris is actually doubling; he’s in the fifteen (1500) and the eight. So is Sam Burley as well. All three of us will be in the 800 together. It’ll be nice to have some friendly faces in there and we’ll help each other the best we can.
--Stating he wants to pr this year, not in this race and that they were training through. -
I say he's good for a sub-3:50 this year.
Maybe not a record, but a sub-3:50 is assured. -
he beat both of his training partners who have more speed. 1:47 while in the strength phase of training is not bad considering the peak is months away.
-
I hate to add to Webb bashing, but the kid who won the race is an Australian junior. Webb should not be losing to these guys, assuming he has goals of medaling at wc's in the 1500
-
Let's see: American record holder in two miles; 13:10 5k; 27:34 10k; oh, by the way, 3:48 mile. I suppose it matters who's doing the rating, but those are worthy of great respect.

You guys are idiots. 1:47.32 is a great time this early in the year for a non-800m runner. If he is planning on peaking in August, he shouldn't be running mind-boggling times in anything right now, especially the 800 since it requires more speed training. This race shows me Webb is capable of 3:53 or faster right now, and he can still improve quite a bit.
Mark my words, if Webb stays healthy, he'll PR in the 800, 1500, and possibly the mile and 5000. -
Yeah. This hating on Webb and bashing is rediculous and boring. Reminds me of all the bashing of Ryan Hall's brother for running a 51 in the 400. He ran 147. Why get upset about it? I'd think it was a solid early season workout. Plus, lots of tactical stuff can happen in an 800 that can impact your final time... particularly if you are a miler moving down. Relax, haters. It's just one early season race. A tune-up. Jeeeze.

Good April time for Webb.
I don't know who Xiangyu Li is but I bet we see him in the Olympic final next year.
I am sure China will strictly monitor his training and "diet." -
He lost by less than .3 in an early season effort that he didn't taper for.Only slightly over a second off his p.r.
He's got 4+ months of training/racing ahead, with a peak scheduled for August and the World Champs, hopefully.
He's fine. Look for a 1:45 in mid-summer. -
Both of his training partners (lukezic and burley) ran the 1500 on friday and did this as a workout, so he should have beat them since he was going for a PR. bad weekend for all of the Raczko coached athletes, but webb will be fine. no need to bash him now for a mediocre 800.
