I think it jumped the shark in terms of training when Johanna Nilsson, possibly the most talented runner ever in the NCAAs, decided she'd rather go to Mexico and hang out on the beach than train in Flagstaff.

Granted she did come back to win NCAA cross and the 3k and mile at NCAA indoors a few years later, but I don't think it had much to do with her training in Flag.

The Mexican beach is a better place to train apparently.
