800- Control in the first 200 (although WK went out in 23 for his WR 1:41.11), first lap 49-51. the toughest part is from 500-750 where you are tying up like a dog.
The last 50 is not tough because you can grunt and strain all you want, it doe snot matter because everyone else is doing the same.
1500- Look at EL-G. First lap 54-55. FMaybe you will feel the lactate at 500-600m. 800 in 1:50-1:52. Breathing hard but still in it. The 800-1200 stretch of course is the toughest.
Maintain if possible but do not slow drastically. At 1100m try a withering kick (like EL-G uses). Take off in a full out sprint from 1100-1300m. After that you can die a little, but the point is that any opponent will give up when they see someone take off with a 26 second 200 with 400 to go.
El-G does this, but his last 150 is nothing spectacular. By then, Lagat has surrendered.
3000/5000- Almost a necessity to go out fast, as you can get way behind early in a GL 5,000 and have no way to get back. First 1K 2:30-2:34, maybe through 2,000 in 5:10-5:15.
The time to "rest" is the 3000-4000 stretch, usually w/ 64-65s laps for a 2:40-2:45. The 4000-5000 stretch might be used for a surge if you have no kick (2:30-2:32), but w/ 800 to go one could take off flat out and go.
Often the pack is bunched until 400, but a withering kick is not much good as you cannot really die and hope to hang on. 200-250 to go and use every last ounce for a 25-26 last 200.
