I know them well, even though bekele has a natural talent he is rather “lazy” compare to haile.
The latter never sleep until he achieve his goal. that is why haile smash more than 21 world record.

I think the poster is saying he has better reange because even thought HG has faster Pr's, Paul is close on every single one, and remember Paul holds the marathon WR, PLUS 5 WXC Titles, Geb has none.
Sure Bekele might have broken his records, but isn't that what "records" are there for?.... to be broken?
Regardless, there is NO WAY that Bekele (even though he's technically faster) is a better distance runner than Geb.

Paul is close in the 1500? Um, NO!!! Paul is only .8% better than Haile in the marathon, while Haile is more than 1% faster than Haile in the 1500, 2000, 2 Miles, 5000, 15K and 10 Miles.
Don't even begin to get into championships won. I shouldn't have to remind you all again that Haile has 2 Olympic Golds and 4 World Championship Golds while Tergat has NONE.
BUT, Tegat did medal in all but one WC, and while a silver is not a Gold, I'll take the 5WC titles, plus the track medals, and the marathon WR against 2 Olympic. I think the Olympics are way way way too overated. Yes they have history, but come on, it's like you have to say, if you win an Olympic gold then you are the best... sure for that day... I mean come on Billy Mills had a great day, but no way was he one of the best in the world at 10,000. Point is Geb has the Olympic golds, ill give you that, Tergat however is by far better in therms of range, XC, Roads, and Track, he is the true complete runner, HG, only 2/3's complete.

stl runner, here you go buddy....
how does this possibly prove your point? please explain how Tergat could possibly be considered better than Geb
Geb
WR 10k 50pts
WR5k 50pts
WR half marathon 50pts
Oly Gold 1 30pts
Oly gold 2 30pts
4 times 10k world champ 100pts
3 times indoor 3k champ 30pts
indoor 1500m champ 10pts
350 pts
Tergat
WR 10k 50pts
WR marathon 50pts
2 Oly Silver 30pts
WR half marathon 50pts (Tergat ran 58:51 on a short course (by 50m) and 59:06 on a downhill course)
5 times xc champ 150 pts
330 pts
pretty close actually
im sure i missed stuff-but those are the important things
aside from paul tergat having greater depth and ability than every runner who ever lived, one fact remains....
HE IS THE WORLD RECORD HOLDER IN THE MARATHON.
when geb breaks the world record for the marathon, then you can call him the goat, and i will agree.
the funny thing is, NOBODY WILL EVER BREAK THE WORLD RECORD FOR THE MARATHON AGAIN!! SO PAUL TERGAT WILL REMAIN THE GOAT AND THE WR HOLD IN THE WORLDS ULTIMATE DISTANCE.
dont make me discuss wr's and physical limits and things of that nature, because i will prevail in that argument.
add it up - Geb has beaten Tergat head to head way more times. And when it mattered. The nod goes to Geb.

well, atleast that is your honest opinion. you, stl runner, whoever else is a geb fan, it seems as though you are strong willed and have firm beliefs.
but this still doesnt make me change my mind. and i never will. tergat in my opinion is the goat, and always will be. as i said in the previous post, he holds the world record for the worlds ultimate distance. the marathon.
i firmly believe the marathon world record will never be broken again. need more explanation on human limitations/max and why i feel this way? click below...
this doesnt take into account geb's greater range and the fact that Geb's 10k wr and half-marathon wr were/ are faster than the records tergat set in those distances

actually you NEVER give an explanation on that link. you just state your opinion on what times may look like. but there isn't any reasoning to back it up. so i really have no reason to believe you that the marathon is the hardest event, or that Tergat is the best for holding the WR. If anything, Geb's solo run in Berlin in windy and warm conditions is a performance very close to Tergat's. And then he runs a 2:06 high a few months afterward. If he can get a race with pacemakers who stay as long as Tergat's and with reasonable conditions, he can drop that time for sure.
hey omurphy21.....
did you ever read my previous post?
i think tergat SET NEW standards for distance running.
also may i add, bekele, geb, all of the other FALSE goats, have been elite running/racing since their early teenage years.
TERGAT STARTING RUNNING AT AGE 27. before this, he had no prior running experience and was in the kenya military.
there is no astericks or time bonuses for starting late, you get credit for what you do on the track/roads/course.
When you talk of Bekele you have to mention his WORLD XC DOMINATION.
No man has ever won both the 4k and 12k XC double, except for Bekele. Not only that but he's done 5, that's FIVE, times. Including his World Junior XC title, he's got 11 World XC Championship titles, this along with a 10K Olympic and World Championship gold and medals in the 5k among other titles.
Geb, Bekele, and Tergat are fortunately still adding on to their impressive careers, so this conversation will rage on for a while. I think El G is on this level as well, at least as mid-distance is concerned.

actually it was age 26.
i love the430miler. he has pwned everybody on this thread with his last few comments.
actually he just proved himself to be an imbecile. he says he can prove that 2:04+ is the limit for the marathon and is a better performance for other events. he never does it but claims he does.

Tergat set new standards? In what event? I guess Geb didn't set any new standards when he lowered the 5k record by 12 seconds.
