I credit Kuehls for raising some of the questions he does and for wanting more discussion on this matter of whether McWilliams should keep racing. But she has done an awful lot of racing already, she feels a very strong allegiance to Mississippi State's program, and she's still a young runner whose coach wants her to help with the cross country program this fall.
Even if she were to get down to, say, 4:03 by racing one or two more 1500s this summer, that's not all that significant compared to what this obvious talent could do in the near future. The Olympics are next year, and she may race sparingly in 2004 before that. She could be around awhile, and be one of our best ever.
McWilliams is someone who could do extraordinary things before she's through. I don't see the rush. Nor do I think the analogy made to Webb is particularly valid.
