Talk about ego's, verifiable times, etc, how about all those posers who run 2:22 at St. George's and proceed to announce it as a PR? :)

I thought that Wetmore brought running to Boulder.
He also invented running shoes and the www.
i recently ran tempo at the legendary flat boring beach here in jeckyll island, georgia. parking at the 7-11 is available if you tip the clerk a buck to not tow your car. leaving from behind the 7-11, in the alleyway, and then departing northwards, up two blocks, and over the creaky wooden bridge onto the shitbrown sand, with the stinky hot wind in my face, i registered an 8:30 first mile.
i sensed it was a good one and perhaps the stuff of legends as i increased my cadence and lengthened my stride. by the turnaround point (just past the old folks home, who were happily playing shuffleboard in their bathrobes) at mile 6, i knew i was in for a great day. though the sweat was poring from my brow, my watch read 44:20.
with the wind at my back and the whispering surf to my left, i headed back to my start, and encountered several posers along the way, new folk to the area, walking, jogging, or playing in the sand. i waved but they didn't wave back. though i arrived at the start with a second split of 44:02, and a new PR for the course, it was tainted by the presence of the infidels on my sacred route. my boring ass beach run shall never be the same.
plenty of other famous runners have graced these sandy trails before me, joe schmoe, joe blow, and joe mawojo, who can all attest to my pr, as were getting slurpies and saw me finish.
Yep--CO-runner I've been working on some cars and doing odd job construction work along with a little writing stuff so I manage to get out at 6:00 in the evening (Tuesday) when it cools down. I don't care for the Creek Path, but end up there a lot due to convenience anbd accessability--it's cooler by the creek and I have less chance of falling down on my cracked ribs (6-2-02), have to be careful with those for some time yet.
runmatty...I hardly know any mature, serious adult runners who do not talk about their workouts and races at some point. It's not to seek out strokes in most cases but for feedback. Why do so many peoploe read this board? For information ab out running, and sometimes for themselves. Runners spend their whole lives learning aspects of the craft. Yah--it may seem like I did talk about Mags so incessantly on this thread (an irritating trait in excess), but I rarely talk about my this-and-that normally, aplus I was trying to defend a fairly innocuous statement. Still, it does get old fast, especially among non-running folk.
Buffy--still not 41 yet till Sept. and thanks. Must be my folks--both look pretty young for their age. Not certain who you are but I might have an idea...
Oh--and Pre brought running to Boulder. He hung out here with Shorter in the 1970s.
I'll verify One Keg's time.
K Lunn
I couldn't give a shit about anyones times in training, times in races I would, but training times, get real. It means jack shit. I've run with heaps of guys who run great times in TRAINING, but come race day they can't replicate. Now stop jerking of about what you dream you can do and show us some results from soething that matters- like a real race.
Most if not all of us are "so over this thread." If you want to chat about times, as I've said repeatedly, e-mail me. Otherwise, move on bro.
Yes, I agree. This thread shoud be chanhed to "Hosers on Magnolia".

Potts brought in Wieghton, Godwin and others in the '60's. Godwin hung around and was president of the Colorado Track Club before Dave Merkowitz headed up the club and actually sent teams to national competitions. This was before Frank came to town. Ask Frank who laid out his first training runs.
I think it was a joke.

And they didn't, not even close, so they're pretenders.
Sounds like you are the pretender. Why do you care if someone says hi to you on a run....maybe they are doing a tempo run or workout.

B ! F ! D!....it means nothing.....gloater!
Why not simply race and let your PUBLISHED time speak for you.
The truth is out now. eye-ran is a total poser. a bitterman runner. I laugh. We all laugh.
I suspect that K Lunn, trackrat, oletimer may be all the same
poster.....and who know maybe even one keg too.
All I'm saying is have some dignity and let your published times speak for you.....why gloat ???
Why don't you let those folks have their fun? If you don't want to read about their workouts, hit the "return to index" and get on with your life. Remember, one day you'll hit 41 and want to talk about your workouts.
I was 41 looong ago(10+yrs). I too have tales to tell. I could belt out tales of times but I figure why....It's all history.
I live by you are only as good as your last race. The gloat thing is simply not my style. No more harsh words from me.
