IMHO I don't have a clue how are things done in this particular lab. I know this: I have a MS in Biology, PhD in Cancer Biology, postdoc at Harvard medical school, decade and half hardcore lab experience and if I mislabel by 1 digit a sample, I do not use those results since even if they support my hypothesis I cannot 100% trust them. Perhaps in their labeling system the digit in question is not one of those which in that set is variable, yet under similar circumstances I do question the validity of my whole experiment.
