Look, teenage boy runner geek hormones and cheerleaders in short skirts just would not work, unless you like running XC with a woody. No, this would just drain all the blood away from your working muscles (to the 'non-working' one in most cases).

The girls you'd get as cheerleaders for track/xc are probably running themselves so they're not available. No analogy to football and basketball. Who'd want to be a cheerleader if you can play the game yourself and look pretty good too?
No. And why? Are you at an all male school? Doesn't your practice and meets overlap w/ the girls? Go look at the female runners. They are fit, athletic and nice to look at. Besides, your skinny ass may have better shot at one of the female runners than a cheerleader.
I know that York HS has (had?) cheerleaders--and the band!--at home meets. Maybe that's one way you get a hundred frosh boys trying out for the team...
we had cheerleaders(albeit the j.v. cheerleaders) at our h.s. cross-country meets(home and away). a few guys thought it actually helped them run faster.
what about baseball?? they don't have them...ooorrr soccer??
golf, lacrosse, hockey???
track and cross are not the only sports without them...
but i do like the idea the one guy had of them comforting us on the bus ride home!! Mmmmm

I know I would run faster if we had cheerleaders. Nothing more motivating than a hot girl in a short skirt yelling for you. Even if she doesnt acutally give a shit in real life.
I ran an invite in HS where they did. It wasn't that cool (maybe because they weren't hot).
there probably are fat chicks at the meets checking out the skinny distance guys
