I haven't heard of this diet, but some of the "bad" foods that you list are essential to my diet:
Yogurt - contains acidophulis (good flora bacteria) which helps you maintain a good digestive system especially if you eat lots of meat which may contain antibiotics which kills your good bacteria in your digestive tracts.
Potatoes - I don't eat much potatoes - may a side of mashed once in a while. Supposedly potatoes have very high glycemis index. I tend to feel very heavy and bloated especially after eating a baked potato.
Tomatoes - A medium tomato only 25 calories provide a good dose of both vitamin A and vitamin C. Also contains lycopene - an antioxidant with cancer protecting benefits. Lycopene becomes even more available when a tomato is cooked and in the presence of a small amount of oil. SO choose a tomato sauce for your pasta vs the more fatty cheese based white sauces.
Dried Fruit - I don't really eat too much of these. I never really felt a benefit from dried fruit. They seem to be high glycemic, right?
Nuts - totally essential in my diet. I tend to avoid a lot a fat like any other fit person, but I rarely avoid nuts. Walnuts and almonds and natural peanut butter is a staple. Peanut Butter and Banana sandwiches and banana and almonds are great before and after exercise foods for me. Decent source of iron and good source of essential fats.
Eggplant - I don't remember the last time I had Eggplant. I remember eating a tasty eggplant dish substituting it for pasta.
Only drink when you are thirsty? Ok thats dumb. Although if you are a high carb diet, you will not be as thirsty vs if you are on a high protein diet. I was on a high protein diet once and temporarily my performance improved, but in the long run I had many problems...I avoid that diet like the plague.
