"The Achilles Track Club (ATC) was established by Dick Traum in 1983 to encourage disabled people to participate in long-distance running with the general public. Dick is its current President, an above the knee amputee marathoner. We are an international, nonprofit organization that provides support, training, and technical expertise to runners at all levels.
BTW, I appreciate John's previous post. Although my posts may come across as somewhat "tight-arsed," for the avoidance of all doubt I must note that I have "coached" (loose use of term, as they knew more about how to go about their training than I did) several Achilles athletes in the past and had a negative reaction to the ATC being linked with the word "insignificant." Flame away, boys...

BTW let me point out back in the 1970's Dick Traum and his computer company worked tirelessly to design and implement the computerscoring system NYRRC/NYMarathon runners enjoy so matterof factly today.
An "apology" (or is that "apologize"?) on letsrun.com? What is happening to this forum. It's just not like the old days anymore. But then again even convicts serving hard time don't pick on handicapped children.

No flames necessary. It was my fault. At frist, I had no idea what you were talking about. I don't live in NY. Then, I didn't know how you knew these 2 runners were with the ATC unless you knew them. But then I saw it noted in their splits, but then I didn't know what it stood for. Then I didn't take the time to look up ATC. I thought it was something like TNT. It was my bad and I'm glad you pointed it out and I hate that I posted that. I wouldn't want anyone from ATC or with a disability to read my first post. And if they do, I hope they read the rest of this thread and see my apologize.
a very honorable post. you don't see that much on letsrun these days.

Pretty good off her 5 hours sleep which I call complete bullshit on.
Sorry to take the thread off topic, but this is a bit of a hot button for me.
I think you are referring to a story that she works in NYC at an investment bank and generally gets only five hours of sleep a night.
If so, I wanted to note that I have a lot of experience in this area (i also contributed to a thread months ago setting out my typical month) and I can confirm with some confidence that five hours a night is totally believable. If you are really in doubt, speak to as many NYC corporate lawyers and I-Bankers as you can and see if you can spot a common theme - almost all of them will have tales of months on end working 80 to 100 hour weeks. This "working" will not include lunch breaks, their commute, sitting on email chat boards or going for a run during a "break" - it will involve actual and constant work. And it will also include situations where even though one has worked for 24 hours straight, one still has not got enough done, and takes a lot of heat for it. So one goes back and tries to work harder the next day. It is nuts, but it does happen. Please note that I'm not making a value judgment as to whether it is good or bad to work this much, whether people who work this much are smart or stupid or whether other people should work harder. I just want to address your scepticism.
stop bickering. How did Mike Skinner of \\\'The Streets\\\' do?
Congratulations to the self appointed letsrun PC police tandem of Rob M and chuck d.
It seems they accomplished their goal of getting a wimp like submission out of Bingham. Well done guys, now go after the guys who rip charity runners!

"Mr. Insignificant" is the title given to the last person taken in the NFL draft every year.
I have never heard of that. I remember reading that the last player drafted was given the "Lowsman Award" (opposite of Heisman) and won a free trip to Disneyworld.
wimplike submission? I don't think anyone likes the idea of picking on disabled runners. It's one think to pick on TNT runners, but disabled runners? Why don't you start a string of special olympics jokes while you're at it. And please don't take me up on this offer.
It's supposed to be Mr. Irrelevant. The last pick in the draft.

Not to change the subject....but this is very impressive (from Ironman Florida):
759 11:54:05 LAFONTAINE PAT NEW YORK NY 1:20:36 5:39:53 4:37:30
Good Job Pat! Plus he raised a lot of money for his charity.
Before I read through this thread, I actually thought the ATC meant "Athletic Trainer - Certified", which is the way an NATA-certified trainer could his name. I thought these were just two people who were full of themselves and just have to list some "alphabet soup" after their names to feel important. Kind of like people listing PhD after their name on their race application so that it shows up in the race results that way. All I can say is that God they are not certified athletic trainers - I hate seeing people who are as unathletic as they come working as trainers.
Also, I'm glad I did not know that Natalie Morales was running. I just may have had to jog a slow time right behind her for 26 miles instead of running the race.
Adam Graves played in the NHL for 15 years (NYRangers, Red Wings, Oilers, Sharks) ran NYCM on Sunday in 4:27:32.

Don't bore us with New York nobodys. New York sucks.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
